Berghaus Deluge Waterproof Trousers

It’s a sad fact that we’re heading into winter… but that does mean that this review of a pair of Berghaus Deluge waterproof trousers are more relevant than ever!
First impressions are good… weighing approximately 400g they’re quite ‘stashable’ and are light enough to throw in the bottom of a camping or hiking bag for protection during those unexpected downpours our island is so famous for.

Another feature that makes these trousers great for use in showers are the three quarter length zips down each leg, making them easy to get on and off in a hurry. It also means that you’re much less likely to get muddy tracks from your hiking boots all the way down the inside of the trousers! The zips are two way, meaning that they can also be opened at the top for ventilation. Although the zips are quite well protected by overlapping material, they’re not seam sealed and would thus possibly leak in the event of a huge downpour. Having said that, you’ll most likely have many more other things to worry about getting wet before the zips become an issue!
In practice the trousers are very comfortable, with their articulated knees meaning they’re better suited to walking than the regular ‘straight leg’ type.

Although Berghaus don’t actually mention the exact waterproof specs of the trousers, they performed very well in our unscientific tests and I’m sure they’ll be suited to most outdoor activities in UK weather.

Although not the cheapest pair of waterproof trousers around, they’re still a worthy purchase at just under £40 from Go Outdoors. Get them now before the rain comes!
