Perth was once Scotland\'s capital. It is situated on the banks of the river Tay. Perth has been a market town for hundred of years. Scone palace attracts visitors from around the world. Many Scottish kings were crowned here. Robert the Bruce was crowned here and the last coronation was that of Charles 11 in 1651. The history, art and antiques and superb landscape make it a national treasure. Stanley Mills is one of the best preserved relics of the industrial revolution. It was established as a cotton mill by local merchants and textiles were produced here for 200 years. The mills were built in 1786 on the river Tay. The Black Watch regiment is the best known and oldest Highland regiment. The regimental museum is in Balhousie castle in Perth. The museum displays a variety of artefacts illustrating the history of the regiment. Music has been an important part of the life of the Black Watch especially the pipe music.
Pitlochry has been a holiday destination for well over 150 years. Queen Victoria was amongst its early visitors. It is set in spectacular scenery. The power station\'s dam is known for its salmon ladder. Fish can be viewed swimming from weir to weir from an underwater viewing station inside the visitor centre. Over 5000 salmon pass through every year. The Blair Athol distillery produces 12 year old single malt whisky. There is a visitors centre here. Ben Vrackie mountain dominates the scenery around Pitlochry and is popular with hillwalkers.
Kinross is an ideal location for hillwalking and bird watching. Thousands of geese winter here every year. Kinross is the county town and known as the gateway to the Highlands. Loch Leven is a freshwater loch. Loch Leven castle lies on an island a short way off shore and is reached by ferry. The castle was prison to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567. Loch Leven heritage trail links historic and cultural heritage around the north and east shores of Loch Leven.
Crieff is a market town and tourist attractions include the Glenturret distillery. The distillery is located on the banks of the river Turret. Innerpeffray library was the first lending library in Scotland. The library was originally located in the loft of St Mary\'s chapel. Both the library and chapel are open to the public.
