Tranquil and secluded, Little Oak Campsite is tucked away near the market town of Retford, in north Nottinghamshire, deep in the heart of Robin Hood country. Surrounded by fields and a beautiful wild garden it's a lovely spot, with plenty of outdoor space for the kids to play hide and seek, kick around a football or take a ride on our tree swing. It can be booked as a whole for groups or parties, or on quieter weekends, it can act as an intimate romantic space. And with a mix of camping and glamping accommodation available to suit different budgets and tastes, there something for everyone. Recent guests said it reminded them of a secret garden!
A toilet and shower block are a short meander away from both campers and glampers - no coin operators or time limits in sight, and plenty of hot water to go around for all!
Pitches are on grass and cater for tents only. The Romany caravan is ideal for those looking for a glamping break.
Please note, there is no electricity available for the tent pitches. Commercial vehicles, caravans or camper-vans are not allowed.
The town and station are 1.5 miles (3km) away. It is a brilliant overnight stop for journeys North to South or vice versa as it is only 3 miles off the A1. It is also only an hour and a half from London Kings Cross by Train. If you are coming by train and have heavy luggage, we provide free pickups and drop backs, but we will need some notice to be able to do this.
There is a great gastro-pub within an easy walk and a cheap and cheerful alternative for when you are feeling a bit skint. You can rent drinks packs (Tea/Coffee/Milk/Kettle/Mugs), Cooking packs (Stove/Cooking Pots/Utensils/Cutlery/Plates/Oil/Spices – you just need to buy the food.), BBQ pack (Same as cooking pack but with BBQ instead of stove). We will also be selling seasonal veg (from our veg patch) and home-made chutneys (from our fruit trees, later in the season jams too). If you book ahead you may be able to order a homemade loaf of bread.
Although Retford bus and train stations have great national transport links (direct travel to London, York, Lincoln and Sheffield), there are only a few local buses and you may find you need your own transport for a longer stay.
There is a pond so little ones would need to be monitored near it. The owners are friendly and understand your needs as they are experienced campers themselves.
