Campsites in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire is set in the Cotswolds. Oxford is the county town and the rivers Cherwell and Thames run through the city. The city of the Dreaming Spires is home to the oldest and most famous university in the world. There is no other town quite like it. The Bodleian library is the main research library of the university. It was established in 1602 and now cares for over 11 million items. Guided tours allow visitors to go behind the scenes of the library. The nursery rhyme, \'Ride-a-cock horse\' has made Banbury one of the best known towns in England. The original Banbury cross mentioned in the nursery rhyme was pulled down at the end of the 16th century. The present cross was erected over 150 years ago to commemorate the marriage of Queen Victoria\'s daughter. There is a large bronze statue in the town depicting the \'fine lady\' thought to possibly be lady Godiva. Broughton Castle is a manor house containing many mementos of the Civil War, including armour and weapons. The castle is surrounded by a moat and set in open parkland. Henley is on the river Thames. It is best known for the annual regatta, founded in the 12th century. Henley attracts some of the world\'s finest rowers. The River and Rowing museum has a permanent Wind in the Willows exhibition, telling tales of life on the banks of the river. To celebrate Queen Victoria\'s jubilee 60 oak trees were planted in Henley in the shape of a Victoria Cross. Henley bridge, built in the 1700\'s spans 5 arches which cross the Thames. Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. It is a magnificent stately home. It is the only non-royal country house in England to be called a palace. It is one of England\'s largest houses, built in the 1700\'s. The extensive parklands include a hedge maze.
