Petruth Paddocks is where you go if you simply want to "get away from it all" and chill-out.

Open fires are positively encouraged with kindling and logs delivered to your door!

It's the opposite of most sites these days so no self important wardens looking for an excuse to tell you off, just a relaxed team who simply want everyone to have a great time - whatever your agenda!

Starting from the site's gate, stroll or cycle along the Strawberry Line for 15 minutes and you're in Cheddar Gorge or why not continue on and take the old railway line path to Yatton recalling how different life must have been with trains hauling strawberries from the slopes of Cheddar to the early morning markets in East London over half a century ago.

You'll wake up to wonderful views - overlooking the Mendip Hills one way and out towards the levels the other - the ideal back-drop to a few days out of the rat-race.

If you can't face putting up a tent - why not stay in a lovely bell tent. You can choose to go naked and unplugged (get back to nature and bring everything with you) or clothed and plugged (beds and electric inside).

Or how about a quirky shepherd's hut pod, sleeping up to eight?

There’s loads of open space for the kids to run about in, get to know other and make new friends. Towards the end of the day, Jules often recruits helpers and gives trailer-rides as he delivers the logs.

Well – behaved animals of all shapes and sizes are welcome so long as they come with well-behaved owners who pick up after them!

Spend the evening relaxing under the stars simply watching the fire as you chat to friends and recall old times.

Facilities are basic but clean - piping hot, high pressure showers set you up nicely for the day and along with the loo's and washbasins, are all cleaned twice a day.

There's a washing-up bay, both fields have lots of taps and there's a chemical disposal point for those of you with vans and motorhomes.

If you can't do without your hairdryer, there's electric and also 8 hardstandings so whatever the weather you'll be able to enjoy time-out at Petruth.

Jules and the team look forward to welcoming families, singles, couples and well-behaved groups - come and say hello!

Reviews of Petruth Paddocks

Went with a small group of friends and from the moment we arrived at the reception we were made to feel extremely welcome by Jules and his family. We will definitely be going back again as this is a very relaxed and happy place to stay.

Great campsite. Jules and the team are very helpful and welcoming. Facilities are getting better every time I stay. Toilets, showers, dishwashing facilities, wifi. And few minutes walk into cheddar.

Lovely site at foot of the Mendips. Open fire and pet friendly, incredibly helpful, friendly staff deliver the firelogs to your tent and stop to chat. It's all very laid back but nothing is too much trouble either and there's a real 'festival vibe' when the place is busy! Easy walk to all the amenities of Cheddar and to the Gorge itself.

In 20 years of camping I have found camping heaven! The site is wonderfully situated for walkers, cyclists, tourists for solo/family/couples and the locality really caters to all tastes... there is fine dining to muddy walks and carting. The staff are really helpful and so friendly, they literally will help you with anything. The best bit is you can have a fire so you can cook over the fire or just sit round a warm fire and relax and watch the sun set over the campsite. I honestly go here as many times as I can which is often! They have caravan pitches, rally field, tent pitches (electric and non-electric) plus for the glamping enthusiast they have teepees and a new Shepherd's Hut which is a wonderful wood built, rustic, 8 sleeper accommodation complete with a full wooden picnic table and firepit/log store! What more could anyone want?
