Shepherds Hut in Tewkesbury

The Shepherds Hut is nestled in between fields and farmhouse on this lovely working farm just outside Tewkesbury. It’s the perfect spot for a mini break as it’s less than an hour from Bristol or Birmingham.
The first thing that strikes you about the hut is how luxuriously compact it is… it’s quite amazing that it’s possible to get such a comfortable space in such a small area! I’d honestly be happy with a bathroom that lovely in a house, let alone a shepherd’s hut! The kitchen is perfectly workable when cooking for two people, although if you have extra guests staying in a tent outside you’ll need to box clever when it comes to using the work surfaces. Everything you need is provided, from a frying pan to a cafetiere.

We headed up after work and were greeted by the very friendly farm dogs as we drove up to the farmhouse… Rosalind (the lovely owner) showed us around and gave us a run-down of the local pubs. We ended up driving to Ashleworth for dinner on the first evening and found a lovely pub, the Queens Arms, with the most delicious desserts (the Banoffee Pie was incredible, but just order one between two of you, it’s rich!!!).

The following day was kicked off with a scrumptious breakfast cooked up from ingredients locally sourced by Rosalind. Farm fresh eggs, bacon and sausages are a perfect way to start the day! It’s an added extra, but one definitely worth taking up!

After breakfast we took a lovely walk to explore the local area… there are plenty of footpaths and lanes to walk, although unfortunately we couldn’t find any pubs open for a hard earned pint after our walk. We made full use of a reasonably sunny afternoon to BBQ – Rosalind can provide charcoal and there is a BBQ outside the hut, with a lovely little seating area overlooking the fields.

Although we had to leave early the next morning, our couple of nights at the shepherd’s hut made us feel like we had been away for a week! A couple of extra days would have been lovely, but unfortunately we had to tear ourselves away and get back to the 9-5.

Overall, the shepherd’s hut is a delightful little getaway that is easy to get to and yet feels like you’re a million miles away! Highly recommended!

P.S. Rosalind says that if you tell her you found out about the hut on lovecamping.co.uk she’ll give you a bottle of wine ;)
