Reviews of Green Hedges Farm

Just back from an absolutely perfect camping weekend at the idyllic Green Hedges Farm camping site and feeling completely chilled out. Perhaps one of the best camping trips ever in terms of complete seclusion and relaxation!

We were attracted to this site because of its short distance from London (about an hour and half door-to-door from East Dulwich) and the fact that it was advertised as small and kids-free. In actual fact, we were the only campers this weekend on this very new site. It was just what we needed but I’m sure that we won’t be that lucky every time we visit. David, who has only recently opened up his field to weekend campers, definitely deserves word to get round quickly. This site is an absolute gem for those wanting an easy and quick escape from the city!

The communal fire, picnic benches and BBQ facilities are a great idea. And don’t be put off by the sawdust loo. It is 100 per cent better than any chemical toilet experience and much to my surprise includes a proper seat. The facilities were also the cleanest camping toilets we’ve ever visited.

The field itself is full of English meadow flowers and butterflies and even a massive dragonfly. The ground is even for pitching and free from thistles or cowpats – a personal irritation about more ‘wild’ sites! And, of course there are none of the annoyances that you can get with bigger sites, like wasps around the bins or queuing for the loo or the water-tap.

David was very friendly and came up to meet us when we arrived. He lit the communal fire for us too but, unfortunately, it took us so long to get our new tent up we didn’t get to enjoy it!

We definitely hope to return to Green Hedges very soon and recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone wanting a quick short get away from London’s daily grind.
