Sitting at the foot of the highest peak in Wales is the beautiful village of Llanberis. Gradually increasing in popularity due to it’s access to Snowdon and the wide array of activities on offer, the area around Llanberis makes for a perfect outdoor getaway.
Perched on the shore of the stunning Llyn Padarn and a stone's throw from the striking Llanberis Pass, the village is seeped in history from the medieval heritage of Dolbadarn Castle, to the more recent influence of the mining industry. The Electric Mountain Visitor Centre takes you on a fascinating journey through a vast network of tunnels inside the Elidir mountain where you’ll discover the inner workings of the Dinorwig Hydroelectric Power Station.
For those looking to get out and about, there are plenty of self-guided trails snaking their way around the town and into the mountains. The glacial lake, Llyn Padarn, provides an excellent base for not only beautiful walking routes, but watersport activities for all ages. There are various companies providing equipment and activities around the lake including diving, kitesurfing, kayaking and windsurfing. The lake is also a popular wild swimming spot, perfect for washing away a long day of walking and climbing!
For a great family day out, there are plenty more attractions within the realms of Padarn Country Park, including adventure and craft activities for all ages. There are extensive picnic areas with lakeside views, perfect for relaxing after a morning exploring the National Slate Museum or a ride along the Llanberis Lake Railway!
