Fort William is the largest town in the Highlands and a tourist centre. Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles and located in the Scottish Highlands close to Fort William. The three peaks challenge is a mountain endurance challenge in GB in which participants attempt to climb the highest peaks of England, Scotland and Wales. The mountains are climbed in order of height, Ben Nevis being the first, then Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in north west England. Just outside Fort William is a large downhill mountain bike track which attracts thousands every year, including international competitors. The Nevis range ski area is located two miles north east of Ben Nevis. The ski resort is used for ski-ing and snowboarding in the winter. The Ben Nevis distillery is a single malt whisky distillery at the foot of the mountain to the north of Fort William. It is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and a popular visitor attraction. The water used to make the whisky comes from a stream that flows through Ben Nevis.
Glen Coe is a glen named after the river Coe which runs through it. It is a favoured site for climbers and hill walkers.
