 Lancashire has some of the most beautiful countryside in the country. Walkers love the peace of the Lancashire dales. Lancaster is the county town. Lancaster castle is a medieval castle, a Crown court and a prison. The interiors of the castle show the stark contrast between the harsh dungeon conditions and the richly decorative interiors of the Crown court. The site itself is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster. This is one of two remaining Duchies in the UK. A loyal toast, is a salute to the head of state. The toast, to the Queen, Duke of Lancaster, is recited by the sheriff and is in regular use today.

Blackpool is a seaside town, situated along the west coast of England, by the Irish Sea. Blackpool Tower opened in 1894 and has been a dominant landmark of the skyline ever since. It was inspired by the Eiffel Tower. Beneath the tower are leisure facilities, including the world famous Tower Ballroom. Blackpool has three piers and a large amusement park which has amongst the worlds fastest and tallest rollercoasters. The high tide organ, stands 15 metres tall and is found on the Promenade. The instrument is played by the sea at high tide through 8 pipes attached to the sea wall.

Lytham and St.Annes have grown together and now form a seaside resort. Lytham is on the east side and overlooks the Ribble estuary and St.Annes is situated on the northern side, overlooking the Irish sea. It is internationally renowned for golf and is one of the hosts of the British Open Championship.

Morcambe Bay is a large bay just to the south of the lake district. It is the largest expanse of mudflats and sand in the UK. It is notorious for its quicksand and fast moving tides, and it is said the the tide comes in \'as fast as a horse can run\'. the bay has rich cockle beds which have been fished by locals for generations.
