 Warwickshire is a landlocked county in the West Midlands. The county town is Warwick, which lies on the river Avon. Warwick castle was built by William the conqueror, it is a protected ancient monument. Medieval England is brought back to life here. There are live shows demonstrating jousting, archery and falconry. A huge reconstructed catapult is fired twice a day.

Royal Leamington Spa is a spa town in central Warwickshire. It is named after the river Leam which runs through the town. The Royal pump rooms was a spa bath opened in the mid 19th centre. People would travel from throughout the country to \'take the waters\'. Today it houses an art gallery and museum, and the tourist information centre.

Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town in the south of the county. The town is a popular tourist destination as it is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The Royal Shakespeare company has its home here in Stratford\'s theatre. Henley Street is one of the towns oldest streets and it is here in a large, carefully restored, half timbered dwelling, that William Shakespeare was born in 1564. It is now a small museum and a popular visitor attraction. Anne Hathaway\'s cottage (the wife of William Shakespeare) is situated in the village of Shottery, a mile from Stratford. Although it is called a cottage, it is a 12 roomed farmhouse, set in large gardens. It is open to the public as a museum.

Rugby is a market town on the river Avon. The town is said to be the birthplace of rugby football. The Webb Ellis rugby football museum is in the town centre and named after the inventor of rugby. The museum is full of rugby memorabilia and traditional handmade rugby balls are still made at the museum.

Nuneaton is the largest town in the county, most famous for its associations with the author George Eliot, who was born here and lived in the town for much of her life.
