 Wiltshire is in south west England. Salisbury is the county town and a cathedral city. The medieval cathedral spire soars 123 metres into the sky and is the tallest in England. It is visible from every direction dominating the landscape for miles. The cathedral houses Europe\'s oldest clock dating back to 1386. Salisbury Plain covers 300 square miles. It is famous for its archaeology and the best known landmark in England, that of Stonehenge. Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument and includes several hundred burial grounds. It is a world heritage site and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Marlborough, in the north east of Wiltshire, is a market town on the old Bath Road - the old main road from London to Bath. Coins were minted here in Norman times. It is said to have the widest high street anywhere in the country.

Swindon is a large town. The Science museum at Wroughton, close by, is used as a storage facility for the largest objects of the Science museum in London. The collection is kept in aircraft hangers on a disused airfield. During the summer, guided tours of the hangers are offered to the public. Swindon is home to the Oxford university Bodleian Library depository, which contains 153 miles of bookshelves.

Chippenham is a market town. Surrounding the town are a number of stone built villages. Lacock is three miles away and the village is owned almost entirely by the National Trust and attracts many visitors. The village has been used as a film and TV set on many occasions. The Yelde Hall was originally a market hall and one of very few remaining timber framed buildings in the town. It is currently the site of the tourist information centre.

Castle Combe is a small attractive village and has buildings dating back to Medieval times. Castle Combe motor racing circuit is found here.
Devizes is a market town and has over 500 listed buildings. The archaeology museum traces the history of folk living in Wiltshire since the Neolithic age, and the collection is one of the finest in the country.
