 Northumberland is England\'s most northern county. The majority of the remaining sections of Hadrian\'s Wall can be found in Northumerland. It still dominates the county\'s landscape almost 2000 years after it was constructed.

The Farne Island, lying off the coast, a boat ride away, in the summer, is home to 55.000 pairs of puffins. When the puffins leave in the late summer, the island becomes home to the second largest grey seal colony in England. The Holy island of Lindisfarne is a tidal island and still a place of pilgrimage. It was the home of St Cuthbert. The chapel of Lindisfarne, built in the 14th century is in the care of the National Trust. The village of Bamburgh is the ancient capital of Northumbria. Bramburgh castle was built onto the natural rock, overlooking the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne. It is one of the largest inhabited castles in the county.

Situated only two and a half miles from the Scottish border, is Berwick-upon-Tweed, a town on the east coast of the mouth of the River Tweed. The Royal border bridge is a railway viaduct and was opened by Queen Victoria in 1850 and is still in regular use. It has 28 arches and is 126 feet above the River Tweed. Berwick parish church was built in the time of Oliver Cromwell. The church was built with no chancel, altar, organ, tower or bells.

Morpeth is a market town and home to one of the few bagpipe museums. It houses a unique collection of bagpipes in the Chantry. This building was once used as a cholera hospital.

Alnwick was a staging post between Edinburgh and London. Alnwick Castle is home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. It has dominated the town since Medieval times. It has been used in the Harry Potter series of films and visitors from all over the world come to see where scenes at Hogwarts were shot.
