 Shropshire is on the Welsh borders. The county town is Shrewsbury and is one of England\'s finest medieval market towns and the birthplace of Charles Darwin. The town centre still retains its medieval narrow streets and passage ways. Street names have remained unchanged for centuries. Shrewsbury is home to the Flower show, which has been running for over 125 years and the oldest horticultural event in UK. The Music hall is a large Victorian building. It houses the towns theatre and tourist information centre.

Telford was named after the civil engineer Thomas Telford. Telford is one of the UK\'s fastest growing new towns. It is home to the Wrekin, a hill above the Shropshire plane. The hill is popular with walkers and tourists and is Shropshire\'s best known landmark. The Wrekin gives views over 15 counties. It was an inspiration for Tolkeins Middle Earth, in the Lord of the Rings series of books. The Wrekin has a cheese named after it, called the Wrekin white cheese.

Ironbridge over the River Severn, was the worlds first cast iron bridge. The Ironbridge Gorge museums offers a unique chance to step back in time. The ten museums pay tribute to what happened to the valley almost 300 years ago. Ironbridge played a huge role at the beginning of the industrial revolution.

Ludlow is a lively market town close to the Welsh border. The large partly ruined castle dominates Ludlow. It stands on a high point overlooking the river Teme and is owned by the Powis castle estate and open to the public. Ludlow has 500 listed buildings which include many half timbered black and white Tudor style buildings. The Feathers Hotel being a wonderful example of this.

Whittington Castle in North Shropshire is the only castle in England to be community run.
