 Cambridgeshire is a flat county, in the Fen land area, famous of course for its university and punting on the river Cam. It is mostly an agricultural region.

The city of Ely is 12 miles from Cambridge and a visit to the cathedral is a must. This imposing building can be seen towering across the Fens for miles, dominating the skyline. It is known locally as the \'ship of the Fens\'. It is home to the only museum given solely to stained glass. The family of Oliver Cromwell lived in Ely and their home, which is now the tourist information centre is worth a visit.

Cambridge, in East Anglia, is known worldwide for it\'s academic excellence, taking it\'s first scholars in 1209. It still keeps its market feel and was an important town long before the university made it so famous and there has been a settlement there since the first century BC. Students after riots in Cambridge, fled to Oxford. The two ancient universities have common features and are often referred to as Oxbridge. The universities have had a long history of rivalry. The Botanic gardens in situated in the university grounds. Set in 40 acres is it well worth seeing.

The rolling countryside of Cambridge was made famous by the English artist, John Constable.
