Family Camping Trip Ideas: Pembrokeshire

If you are looking for inspiration for your family camping trip this summer then you have come to the right place. Pembrokeshire is one of the most enticing UK destinations for families who want plenty to see and do, as well as plenty of natural beauty and charm. Pembrokeshire is known for its beautiful beaches – but that is not all that it offers. If you are thinking about enjoying a family camping holiday in Pembrokeshire, here are some of the many attractions that you should be sure not to miss:

Castles To Explore

All adventurers young and old can get into the spirit of knights and damsels, princes and princesses at one of the area's interesting old castles. Check out Carew Castle, which holds a number of fun family events throughout the year. You can learn archery, take in a theatrical performance, or enjoy a spooky ghost tour as well as learning about the historical fortress. Pembroke Castle is another interesting historic site. This was the birthplace of Henry VII and the site of some great battles. There are living history days and a number of exhibits held here throughout the year. Travelling even further back through time, families could also visit the amazing pre-historic site of Castell Henllys, where a replica of an Iron Age hillfort has been constructed to educate guests about Celtic heritage.

Terrific Towns & Cities

Of course Pembrokeshire is also home to a range of charming small towns and cities, each of which offers plenty for visiting families to see and do. In Tenby, for example, families can take the Tenby Mystery Treasure Trail, which allows them to explore the town at their own pace and see many of the most interesting attractions. The tiny city of St. Davids is another lovely family-friendly place, with its 12th Century cathedral, pretty streets and quaint shops – not to mention the breathtaking sights of the surrounding coast.

Animal Adventures

Kids almost always enjoy animal-themed attractions and this area offers plenty of chances to get up close with a range of different creatures. Families with kids should be sure to consider a visit to Folly Farm, which has not only farm animals but other more exotic creatures too. Manor House Wildlife Park is another place to see exotic animals and enjoy a 'zoonique experience'. You could also learn more about owls at The Secret Owl Garden, or learn more about bees and beekeeping at Scolton Manor. While 'real' dinosaurs may not be available at the Dinosaur Park Tenby, you can enjoy the pretence as you walk the trail to spot the prehistoric creatures. There is also plenty more family fun here – with a go kart track, playground and trampoline park.

These are just some of the many family-friendly attractions that you could enjoy on a family camping trip to Pembrokeshire. Check out our listings to discover some of the great campsites in this amazing area.
