Winner of most dog-friendly campsite announced by Kennel Club

A campsite in Cornwall has been declared the most dog-friendly in the UK by canine welfare group the Kennel Club.

Out in the Open in Porkellis was victorious in the camping/caravanning category at the Kennel Club's 2014 Be Dog Friendly Awards, which announced its winners this week (November 12). The campsite bested some 10,000 competitors, all of which make extra effort for dogs, to scoop the coveted prize.

One in four British homes owns a dog, caravantimes.co.uk notes, and there are more than nine million across the UK. It's no surprise, then, that so many campsites and other businesses are going the extra mile to cater for our lovable furry companions.

Kennel Club Secretary Caroline Kisko said: "We are so pleased for the Out in The Open. It is great that popular places to camp are being so proactive in helping us break down barriers for our four-legged friends."

Still in shock at their win, Out in the Open owners Dee Breen and Cath Sears thanked all of the campers who voted for them, before adding: "We've both always been animal lovers and the campsite has been dog-friendly since it first began. We personally, couldn't bear to go on holiday without our dogs and we aim to make it as easy as possible for our campers to bring their canine companions with them."

Meanwhile, Keswick in Cumbria was named the 'Most Friendly Town' for dogs, newsandstar.co.uk reports.
