Which Camping Type Are You?

There are many different kinds of campers and not just those who tent camp and those who do not. Certain camping types seem to crop up again and again – do you recognise yourself in one of the colourful characters on this list? Each of these characters illustrates a camping type. Which camping type are you?

Adventuresome Wildman/woman

You are to be found clambering up fells and leaping raging rivers in a single stride. You strap your pack on your back and set off into the wilds to challenge yourself against the elements. You like to live life to the fullest and woe betide those who just sit on their backsides. You have no truck with tiredness – you are after a real adventure.

Ideal campsite: the top of a mountain, a remote island or in the middle of some wild woods.

Reluctant Penny-Pincher

You are the sort of camper who grins and bears it. You would rather be sunning yourself on some beach somewhere or enjoying a gourmet meal in Tuscany but this year you are a little too strapped for cash so a camping trip it is. Camping is great for saving the pennies and getting the family out of the house, but it is not really your sort of holiday and if money were no object, you would be out of here like a shot.

Ideal campsite: um, well – a nice little villa in the South of France, actually...

Camp Commandant

The camp commandant takes camping very seriously. Whether in a caravan, campervan or tent this camper is all about keeping things on schedule and tickety-boo. Regimented and with a serious plan, the camp commandant is the one who everyone turns to when the tent blows down or someone trips on a guy line. They are bound to have spare pegs, tape, string or sticking plasters and they know exactly where they put them.

Ideal campsite: somewhere neat and orderly. Wherever they have been meticulously planning to go.

Glamorous Glamper

The glamorous glamper is a recent camping convert. They rather enjoyed their stay in a boutique, bijou glamping yurt last spring and have their eye set on that gypsy caravan in a glade in the woods. The glamorous glamper thinks 'roughing it' is fun – as long as someone packed the corkscrew and the fine bottle of something. With trendy, tousled hair and designer wellies, the glamorous glamper is ready for anything – as long as it isn't too muddy.

Ideal campsite: Safari tent with four poster bed and a champagne breakfast on the table.

Happy Holiday-Camp-er

The happy holiday-camp-er is the one who likes to jolly everyone along. With their relentless good cheer they try to put a good spin on everything from the rain and wind to the burnt dinner and always like to tell everyone how much fun they are having. Are you the camping cheerleader, constantly trying to enthuse your loved one or family about the joys of camping? Even a midge couldn't dampen your good cheer – or could it?

Ideal campsite: Anywhere is just fantastic!
