The quality of the Volkswagen Passat Estate as a towcar has seen the model pick up another accolade, reports motoring.co.uk.
In a post for the driving website, journalist Geraldine Ashton Green lauded the automobile's fuel efficiency, Bluetooth connectivity and its smart aesthetics, after it was named Top Towcar of the Year 2011 by CaravanTimes.co.uk readers.
This latest win follows on from topping the Towcar Awards last summer, as experts from What Car? and Practical Caravan decided that the Passat Estate TDI 170 PS was the best option for drivers taking their caravan to campsites in the UK.
Chris Jeffries, editor of CaravanTimes.co.uk, said: "Among our forum members, Volkswagen is renowned as a reliable, practical and economical choice. The Passat Estate beat off strong competition this year and we expect to see plenty of them at campsites across the UK in 2012."
For those that like their automobile to have offroad capability, the release of the Passat Alltrack could prove attractive. Farmers Guardian reported that the half estate, half 4x4 model is due to hit showrooms next July.
It will feature a dedicate off-road mode, fast-reacting electronic differential locks for wheelspin prevention and a raised ride height among other alterations. It follows in the footsteps of the Volvo XC70, Skoda Octavia Scout and Audi Allroad by combining 4x4 capability with estate shape.
