There is no doubt about it, a campervan or motorhome can give you the freedom you crave and can help you travel through and stay in some of the most beautiful, natural areas of the UK. If you love camping, you may be considering a purchase – but have you really thought it through? Is the campervan or motorhome you are considering really the right option for you? And would you really rather have one of those than a caravan, trailer tent or a simple tent?

When it comes to deciding which sort of camping is for you, it is important to think about where you will be going and with whom. Is budget an issue? Is fuel an issue? Do you like luxury or are you quite happy to get back to basics? How much space do you have at home? If you do decide that a motorhome is the best option for you, it is important to do your research. A motorhome, even one at the lower end of the market, is an expensive purchase and the decision to buy one should never be taken lightly.

Renting a motorhome can be expensive but if you only intend to travel once or twice a year, say, then would buying a motorhome really make financial sense? Remember that, as a vehicle, a motorhome will need a certain amount of upkeep and will not fare well if left in the drive for too long. Motorhomes only really make sense for those who plan to use them fairly frequently for weekends away or for longer trips throughout the year. If you do love motorhoming then of course buying one would make far more sense financially than hiring one every time you want to take a trip.

Trying A Motorhome Before You Buy

If you have made the decision to buy a motorhome then you should not just zoom out and get one right away. Renting might still be a good idea – if only for one holiday. Renting a motorhome is like taking one on an extended test drive. It will allow you to see what a motorhome camping holiday is really like and potentially to discover the strengths and pitfalls of a particular model that you are considering. Make sure that you try a motorhome before you commit to buying one, or you could end up regretting your choices.
