Outdoor Gear Coming to Market in 2018

Previews of new gear for next year have been impressive, with outstanding innovation on show and, in many cases, a growing awareness of the necessity for more eco-friendly and sustainable outdoor equipment. Here are five new products which exemplify either the innovation or the eco-awareness:

Nordisk Lofoten 1 Ultra Light Weight Tent

This ultra light weight offering packs down to a tiny 11x22cm and weighs in at just 490g when stripped to its lightest components. The poles are ultralight aluminium, made in very short segments to keep the pack length to a minimum. The fabric is Nordisk's 7D fabric, which weights just 26g per m2. Some say this is the world's most packable tent.

Paramo Women's Alize Ultra Light Windproof Jacket

This environmentally-friendly offering weighs just 106g and backs into its own pocket, and yet it is extremely tear and wind resistant, and a PFC-free coating repels water. The helmet-compatible hood and the hand-warming pockets also mean that this lightweight covering offers greater weather protection than you might think.

Patagonia Micro Puff Hoody

This is another ultralight jacket, this one filled with innovative PlumaFill, which is designed to fluff up and feel like down. It is stabilised with a tile design (which Patagonia are patenting) which is designed to prevent shifting and cold spots. This award winning design has been described as the best synthetic option to date.

Nemo Helio LX Pressure Washer

This pressure washer is designed for showering, doing dishes or generally cleaning up camping gear. It has a 22 litre tank that does not need to be hung up for use. The tank is pressurised by means of a patent-pending foot pump. Simply fill the tank with water and leave it on the ground, in the sun, to warm (maybe this is better for warmer climes!) before stepping on the pump to pressurise it, then you will be good to go.

Deterra - Tierra's 100% Organic Bio-Based Jacket

This is the world's first 100% fossil-fuel free jacket. Tierra set out to create the most technical jacket possible without any fossil-fuel based material. It includes materials from castor beans, wool, corn, Tencel, cotton and corozo nuts and has already been lauded with a number of international awards – soon it will be available to customers.
