On Your Next CampingTrip, Be Inspired By Some of This Year's Award Season Films

The Revenant – there are fortunately no bears to maul you in our UK woodlands but there certainly are plenty of other creatures of interest to see. In the modern day, of course, you are more likely to shoot creatures with a camera rather than using a gun to kill them for their fur. Like the native inhabitants of North America, you can learn to respect nature and become more in tune with its cycles and rhythms. What is more, you can take the chance to bond with your own family.

Steve Jobs – He could really be a piece of work, couldn't he? Why not keep up your moral outrage at his behaviour and let that spur you on to leave your screens at home and get out there and see the real world for a while, free from computers and smart phone screens and the business world. Forget all that and head back to a simpler age, walking and breathing and enjoying the smaller, simpler things in life.

Joy – Joy is all about a strong woman: an entrepreneur and mother who follows her dreams. Anyone, regardless of gender, can do anything if they set their mind on it and apply themselves assiduously to the task. Perhaps a wild camping adventure will be challenge enough, or perhaps the camping trip you take will give you the space and time to re-evaluate your life and follow your own dreams, whatever they may be.

Room – this grim, heart-rending and yet spellbinding film can remind us all that our freedom is something precious and time is a great thief that steals from us in increments so small that we often do not notice what has gone until it all has. Are you really taking full advantage of all the opportunities you have in life?

Trainwreck – This Amy Schumer vehicle might give you the unfortunate feeling that, like the main character, you too are stuck in a rut. A camping trip can give you the time, space and distance needed to see your life more clearly and if it is indeed a bit of a Trainwreck, to begin to do something about it with a clear head and perhaps even a brand new perspective.

A camping trip can give you the chance to meditate more deeply on films you may have seen, TV series you have caught, books you have read and on real life. It can be a chance to really discover who you are and where you want to be – perhaps you will be inspired by something you have seen or read to make big changes and see more of the beautiful, natural world around us. Whatever you ultimately decide to do, a camping adventure is a great place to start.
