More than one in five motorhome owners say the Scottish Highlands is the best UK holiday destination, a survey by Club Care Insurance has revealed.
According to strathspey-herald.co.uk, the Highlands was voted well ahead of Cornwall, which came in second place with just 12 per cent of the vote. The Lake District was a close rival to Cornwall though, as it was voted for by 11 per cent of respondents.
It's little wonder why Brits love Scotland so much, as there are twelve National Tourist Routes available for people to enjoy, along with a number of picturesque villages. Over the last five years, campers and caravanners have taken 135,000 trips to Scotland. Each stayed for 4.4 nights on average and spent a total of £23 million each year in the country, reports visitscotland.org.
Scott Armstrong, regional partnerships director for VisitScotland, thinks it's "wonderful" that so many motorhome owners are big fans of the Highlands.
"With its ancient landscapes and fascinating history, the region is an incredible destination for any holiday, whether they come by motorhome, rail or bicycle," he stated. "Visitors can witness the amazing wildlife and take part in some thrilling outdoor pursuits, while also exploring the many mountains and glens, the stunning islands and stretches of coastline, and follow the country's only Malt Whisky Trail."
