Merseyside caravan site applies for extension permission

A Merseyside caravan park has applied for permission to extend its site, according to caravantimes.co.uk.

The Southport Caravan park wants to build new access roads and more hard standing to create additional caravan pitches  for the Victoria Park camping site. New water and electric mains will also be installed and a single-storey toilet block will be converted.

It is thought that the plans will be approved considering the changes won't have a significant on the character of the area. However there have been a number of objections from local residents, who claim in is one of the only green spaces left in the area.

Those in charge of the park however say the developments could help bring more visitors to the site - improving tourism and boosting the economy of the Southport area.

According to southportvisitor.co.uk, the planning application states: "Southport's economic base is built on tourism and the visitor income from users of the site is valuable to the local economy."

It continued: "The touring van and motorhome users of the site are a key demographic in support of the Classic Resort strategy that had guided Southport's regeneration in recent years."

Local councillors will now discuss the plans, with the final decision being made on Wednesday March 6th.
