Extendable T5 camper hits the market

A T5 Camper Van has been engineered to double in size at the touch of a button, thisisbristol.co.uk reports.

Designers have built a unique feature into a T5 Doubleback which enables the living space situated at the back to extend at just the touch of a button.

Created jointly by Danbury Motorcaravans of Yate and Welsh firm Overlander Motorhomes, the T5 extends to comfortably accommodate a family of four on their holiday. It works by extending two metres out of the vehicle's rear, which is then supported by fold-down, self-levelling struts.

Inside, a table suitable for five people can be transformed into a bed, as well as an additional foldaway table. There's plenty of space for possessions as well, with the van stretching a total of 26ft at full size.

The van isn't cheap, however, as a basic model will set families back £54,000. There is even a more upmarket version which includes a flat-screen TV, DVD player, awning and additional beds in the roof which will cost closer to £70,000.

Speaking to dailymail.co.uk of the contraption, a Danby Motorcaravans spokesperson explained: "The Doubleback model is an exciting new concept in camping.

"The beauty of this van is that, on first appearance, it looks like any other but then the back slides out and it transforms into a van like no other. It is the perfect campervan, offering extended living space within a normal, self-contained van. It gives much more flexibility than a standard camper thanks to the extending pod which adds much more space. The back section really does become like a living room."
