Campsites could be ideal for weddings on a budget

Organising a camping-based wedding could be one way of driving down the ever-spiralling costs, according to one blogger.

Writing for thisismoney.co.uk, finance expert Sally Hamilton explained that weddings under canvas could be one way of keeping costs to a minimum.

Hamilton noted how the average wedding today costs £25,000. Much of this comes from the larger purchases, such as the wedding and reception venues (£2,223 and £4,189 respectively), caterers (£3,063), photographer (£1,399) and bride's dress (£1,340).

A way of reducing costs, however, is to house guests at a campsite instead of nearby hotel. This could also extend to the ceremony itself, with a large marquee over some open ground providing a less expensive alternative. Whilst such a space won't be legally sanctioned for the marriage itself, it will certainly be suitable for the reception.

One couple doing just this is student Lizzie Wilcock and apprentice Ben Wheeldon, paltelegraph.co.uk notes. As they don't have tens of thousands of pounds to hand for their big day, the couple has set themselves a budget of just £4,000. As such, guest accommodation comes in the form of a campsite near their reception venue.

This, the couple said, isn't just beneficial for them but their guests as well. Attending a wedding can be expensive, not just for those who are hosting it, so Lizzie and Ben hope their budget affair will help friends and family as well. This way, they don't have to spend out huge amounts on outfits, hotels and transport.
