Campsite owners handed Gold Accreditation for eco work

An innovative campsite in East Sussex has been accredited with a Gold Award for its services to the environment, arrowfm.co.uk reports.

Swallow Hill Farm in Beckley, near Hastings, took a coveted Gold Accreditation in the Green Tourism Business Scheme for its work on landscaping and offsetting environmental impact. It awards those who have innovated and experimented in order to boost the green credentials of their business and the impact it has on the wider community.

The campsite was set up three years ago by Sarah and Christopher Broadbent as a way to diversify the land and support their ongoing conservation work. It also allowed them to open an unusual flower meadow landscape and open it up to those camping in the area who many never have ever seen anything of the sort.

In addition to all of this, qualified Forest Schools Leader Sarah also runs a class for children between the ages of six and 11 to teach them about the great outdoors from out of the classroom confines.

The award, which is notoriously difficult to win, was given to the Broadbents in recognition of their landscape management, energy offsetting and teaching of green subjects to locals in the community.

Award presented, local MP Greg Barker, told ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk: "I am delighted that this local business run by Sarah and Christopher Broadbent has won a Gold Accreditation.

"This is testament to their hard work and commitment to sensitive landscape management, conservation and environmental issues. It was a pleasure to visit them at their farm last week to learn more about their award and their innovating 'glamping' business."
