Camping hammock sees popularity rise

A device which is halfway between a tent and a hammock is causing a stir among campers around the world.

The Lawson Blue Ridge Camping Hammock was first dreamed up in 1997 by a team of outdoor enthusiasts who wanted to create something that offered the comfort, waterproofing and toughness of a tent but which could be erected on any terrain. The result was a tent that stood off the ground resting between two anchors, just like a hammock, slideshare.net reports.

Those looking to use the device as a traditional tent are also able to, with the team designing it in order to function just as well for those sleeping on - as opposed to above - the ground.

Since its early days, the camping hammock has been adjusted and improved in order to boost ease of erection, waterproofing and value for money.

Now, the Blue Ridge Camping Hammock is becoming more widely known and has been shipped to 25 countries.

Reviewing the tool, blogger Hazel Chua told technabob.com: "It's basically a hammock/tent combo that will let you relax and chill out, even when you're supposed to be roughing it.

"Of course, the point of going camping is to experience nature as it is. But there's no sense in not enjoying it either. They're not just for making camping trips more comfortable either. Take it to the beach, to your family reunion, or anywhere else where you might want to get comfortable while you're outdoors."
