Camping gas recall on CalorLite cylinders

Caravan owners using Calor Gas are urged to check their cylinders urgently as the company has issued a product recall.

Following the detection of a possible defect in the 6kg CalorLite cylinders manufactured between 2008 and 2011, Calor Gas has requested all customers take their cylinders to a local stockist for an exchange as soon as possible.

No consumer incidents have been reported but the company is taking precautions and offering all customers of the potentially affected gas cylinders a free replacement.

The possible material defect could cause the canister to deteriorate over time, allowing gas to escape. Calor Gas has recalled the estimated 170,000 6kg cylinders thought to be in circulation, according to calor.co.uk.

Information for checking the date of the manufacture is detailed on both the Calor Gas website and on outandaboutlive.co.uk. Customers are advised to look along the base ring of the cylinder where the date of manufacture can be found in two places. The tare disc should also be checked as this will inform customers if the cylinder has previously been recalled and tested. If there is a hole punched in the disc then it has been confirmed as safe to use, regardless of the date.

Only the 6kg cylinders manufactured between 2008 and 2011 inclusive are affected, and customers will be offered a replacement free of change. There will be no charge for any gas used when returned as part of the recall. For more details on the recall and how to check the cylinder customers are urged to check the Calor Gas website.
