Jolly Gourmand Gastro Ration Packs

A couple of months ago we covered some seriously delicious camping food. The food pouches were delicious and perfect for one main meal. If, however, you're looking to make your life easier by ordering almost everything you need for a day's camping/hiking in one easy pack, then the Gastro Rations pack from The Jolly Gourmand is probably exactly what you're looking for. The packs come in three menus for carnivores and a vegetarian menu for those less inclined to have meat in their meals. We particularly enjoyed the packaging of the menu we reviewed... it comes in a neatly sized box with bright yellow and black warning tape and a couple of military style stickers warning about the tasty contents! Very clever and given that the boxes are just under 2kg and therefore suitable for sending to operational armed forces through the BFPO the packaging is suitably appropriate. The pack is essentially a selection of camping/hiking products chosen to complement each other and then packaged neatly together. In our sample ration pack (Menu 'A') was enough for a full day's gourmet eating: Breakfast 'Stoats' Berry Feast Porridge Pot Lunch - Chilli con Carne with Rice Dinner Wild Rabbit in Leek and Elderflower Sauce Dessert 'Georgie Porgie's' Steamed Orange & Cointreau Pudding Snacks 'Pulp' Fruit Puree 'Coan' Original Beef Biltong, 'Stoats' Porridge Bar, 'Mr Filberts' Zanzibar Nuts and Seeds 'Romney's' Original Chocolate Covered Kendal Mint Cake Drinks Kit 2 Wahoo Vitamin Fruit Drink Mixers, 1 Fairtrade Tea Bag, 1 Rainforest Alliance Instant Coffee Stick, 1 Fair Trade Hot Chocolate, 2 UHT British Milk Sticks Extras 1 Bottle of Tree Fire Sauce, Salt and Pepper, 'Peppersmith' All Natural Chewing Gum, 2 Sporks and Napkins Needless to say, all the food was absolutely delicious. Not being fans of instant coffee, we thought that was the only slightly incongruous element to the pack, but it is still definitely the easiest way to make coffee while camping so it's probably a convenient addition. The pack isn't anything that you couldn't do yourself by buying products from several stores, but the beauty of it is that it's all done for you!
