Sitting at the heart of the Wye Valley, Ross-on-Wye is often credited as the nation’s favourite Market Town. Surrounded by idyllic Herefordshire countryside, the town offers the perfect rural getaway, a true British classic.
By far one of the most popular activities in the area is to hire a canoe and make your way along the river at your own leisurely pace. There are plenty of options for hire with companies dotted all along the river bank offering full and half day experiences, some leaving from the town itself and others offering a pick up from your campsite! Once you’ve worked up an appetite from all that paddling, why not include a pit stop at one of the riverside pubs along the way.
You won’t need to stray far from the town to enjoy the many breathtaking views that are on offer, with the Black Mountains of Wales to the West and the Malvern Hills to the East. There are plenty of walking routes to suit all ages and abilities, from gentle strolls along the river to longer hiking routes for the more adventurous.
The town itself is drenched in history, with the 17th Century Market House standing proudly in the centre, and still host to the bi-weekly market. There are numerous independent retailers, galleries and shops to explore and plenty of traditional pubs in which to recover!
