Reviews of Red Dragon Holidays

Beautiful camping pods clean and comfy
All that was missing was a bus timetable as Internet was not brill to download!
Great location!

Perfect base for your Snowdonia adventure.

What an excellent bolt hole this place turned out to be. My partner and I stayed at the Red Dragon Camping Pods during the weekend of 1st - 3rd of July as we wanted a base to explore the southern and western paths up Snowdon. Red Dragon is located a couple of hundred yards walk away from the start of the Watkin Path, possibly the most picturesque of all of the popular ascents.

It's also a couple of miles away from Beddgelert, a wonderful little village full of pubs, cafes and the superb Beddgelert Woodcrafts that we've bought many items from over the years. I would highly recommend taking the walk along Afon Glaslyn south towards Porthmadog, with such breathtaking scenery you'd swear you were in the American Rocky Mountains.

As a base for exploring Snowdonia Red Dragon was perfect for us. We usually stay in either cottages or one of our two tents, but this was something new to us and we'd been keen to try out a pod for some time. On arrival we were met by Claire who was lovely and made us feel welcome. Our pod was very inviting and was surprising warm inside. We'd brought with us sleeping bags and duvets, but as it turned out I ended sleeping on top of the bedding as the pod was so cosy.

The pod consisted of two single beds, a central beside table with lamp and kettle (along with tea/coffee/sugar/milk), a bin at the end of one bed and the heater at the end of the other. The door had a window with blind, and there was another window and curtain at the rear. Some may think that basic, but there was really nothing more needed. The toilet block was clean and of high standard, and the communal cabin housed a fridge, microwave and computer. Having access to Wi-fi (small additional cost) was excellent especially as there is no mobile/3G/4G signal at all at the site.

I'd highly recommend Red Dragon as a base for your stay in Snowdonia. We're already booked in for later in the year when I'm due to run the Snowdonia Marathon. I'm glad that I know there's a comfy bed waiting for me.

The room was fantastic, we arrived easily due to great communication from Bryn Dinas. In all honesty we just expected beds but they have thought of everything, from corkscrews to umbrellas.

The pod was very clean and the bedding was luxurious.

The bathrooms were very spacious, much better than your usual small cubicles.

The only problem was that there aren't any local taxi firms to the village.

Great place to stay really comfortable and clean this was our second visit within the last month and we are looking forward to coming back in the near future!
Dave (8th Jun 2016)
Both the pods and the Snowdon cottage were excellent with everything we needed, we were made to feel so at home and wanted for nothing. real cosy and comfortable and would recommend to anyone to stay here. Cannot wait to come back here.
Lisa Clark (19th May 2016)
The pod was great - had everything we needed - very thoughtful. The location was brilliant - the price was great - we felt very welcome and comfortable. We had a really brilliant holiday and could definitely stay for longer than we two nights we did. We will be back!
Elinor Williams (28th Mar 2016)
We arrive mid day Saturday and were surprised by how cosy and clean the pods were. Set on the side of the hill with good views all around. The facilities were good and well laid out, clean and plenty of hot water for cleaning and washing. Set at the mid point for walking around the Snowdon area. The pods were snug and a little hot for me but the wife loved it. Will be looking to drop in later in the year if there is availability.
martin murphy (16th Mar 2016)
Spent 4 nights in the Pods with my son on a lads activity holiday and they were fantastic. Cosy and snug and the beds really comfortable. Loads of storage under the bed. Tea and coffee facilities. Loads of hot water in the shower block and washing and drying facilities. Excellent staff on site really helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to return and recommend.
Paul (27th Aug 2015)
This was a great stop on a cycling trip through snowdonia. The camping pods were very cosy and well equipped. The shower and bathrooms were well tended to and had plenty of hot water. The views from this site a outstanding!
Grace (4th Aug 2015)
Perfect place for stay if you travel with backpack and you want to have good acces to all Snowdonia National Park activities. Everything clean and neat, pods with heating and very comfortable beds. Bathrooms also in very good condition. Place to wash and dry your things - important when you are in Wales and it's raining all the time. Very good location, close to some mountain paths and not far away from lovely Beddgelert village. I can't wait to come back to Bryn Dinas Camping Pods! I love everything about this place! I highly recommend stay in there!
Kasia (18th Jun 2015)
Wow what an amazing place to stay - compact, but cosy and well equipped. I only stayed here one night with my boyfriend and our retriever, but I wish we had been staying far longer! It provided a great Base for our hike up Snowdon, with the beautiful village of Beddgelert just a stones throw away. The pod was spotless and warm and well equipped with feather duvets and pillows and fresh fluffy towel, tea and coffee making facilities, crockery and hot water bottles!! The bathrooms were also clean and warm with heated towel rails and showers with plenty of hot water and good pressure. The only draw backs were the limited roadside parking and the strong light from the reception cabin which stayed on all night (we rectified the problem by hanging our towels over the curtain rail!!) I'll definitely be back!
Gemma (14th Apr 2015)
I booked the pod for 3 nights and as I'd left it late'ish was even more pleased it was dog friendly, when we arrived it was fantastic. In a wonderful setting it was excellent even for two normally "bored" kids.
It is next to the main road to Beddgelert but you really don't know it's even there after dark it is so peaceful.

very warm inside the beds were really comfy and everything was spotlessly clean, power sockets, kettle tea/coffee, heater, plates/cutlery and storage under the beds!! (Soooo much better than a tent!!!!)
the shower block had 2 bathrooms in with really hot water, laundry facilities "looked" good???? kitchen all spotless and to go with all that a host that was polite, helpful, friendly informative but totally inobtrusive.

The Start of the Watkins Path is situated a 2 minute walk from the pods and makes for a picturesque and fantastic walk up Snowdon. Not the easiest, no doubt, but a fantastic walk with far reaching views out to sea, waterfalls. We got to the top of the horseshoe before the last little bit up...spitting distance away but ran out of time!!!

So cant now wait to return but with the wife!!! But may well go for two pods if that happens as 6 of us in one pod may be pushing it!!

Sorry did I not say......The pod had myself, my 2 young kids (8&9) and our 2 Springer Spaniels in and it was fine!!!!

Mmmm...very...cosy!!!!

Friends and I returned to Red Dragon as it we find it a perfect base for walking Snowdon. It's great value for money, clean and a perfect option if you don't want to go for a hotel but want a step up from camping.
Nigel Cook (13th Oct 2014)
We have just got back from 2 nights a group of 8 people and it's a great place to stop , it was our second visit and we will be back, our friends decided to come on this trip for the 1st time and loved it and we will all be back soon , 300 m from the Taylor walk up snowdon, lovely walk into beddgelrt along the lake , and great places to eat locally , pods are neat clean and tidy and the owners are great
Wayne Spooner (26th Aug 2014)
Stayed 2 nights in the end pod nearest the road, at first I thought it was going to be noisy but as the evening went on I didn't notice the traffic at all, Pod was great, plenty of storage under the bed, surprisingly warm as I have stayed in pods on other sites and felt the cold. Showers were fantastic and clean, communal room well equipped with a great collection of books and magazines, a large fridge freezer and a computer . Only minor negative, the light outside the door although great, it does light up the pod at night and the blind didn't block it out, solved problem by hanging towel up over the window . Highly recommend the site, a great base for exploring snowdonia, couple of miles from beddgelert . And will definatly go back
Deb (3rd Jun 2014)
Very helpful and very friendly. Great location for getting out into the countryside to hike and climb. The pods were much more well equipped than I had expected: a kettle and a hairdryer make any camping trip better! Also surprisingly spacious whilst still cozy and well insulated.
Rosanna (9th May 2014)
We stayed in the camping pods here for only one night and didn't want to leave. This is a great location for spending time in the great outdoors. We swam in the beautiful lakes nearby before have a delicious supper in Hebog in Bedgellert. The next day we cycled around Conwy. The pods are clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Great bathroom facilities and a drying room ideal for wetsuits. The service is top notch too and Claire made us very welcome.
Sue Stout (28th Apr 2014)
I stayed for 2 nights in mid-March with a friend. The Pods are in a great location for Snowdon and the surrounding countryside. The facilities were very clean and tidy. The pods were warm with electric heating and lights. The power sockets were useful for charging various devices during the trip. The beds were comfortable with a cover sheet, pillow and pillow-case provided. There was also storage under the bed and hooks on the wall for coats, etc. The in-pod coffee and tea making facilities were of great use with some coffee, tea and milk provided. The shower and toilet facilities were clean and a big relief after a day mountain biking. We paid extra for Wi-Fi which was essential as the there was no phone signal. There is also a payphone in the communal area if you are without a mobile. I cooked on a camping stove and my friend used the microwave provided. The pot washing facility was great with sponges, washing-up liquid and tea towels also provided.
Our stay at Bryn Dinas Camping Pods was great and I hope to book for a stay with my wife sometime in the future. I would recommend the site to anyone.
Simon H (23rd Mar 2014)
Stayed in a camping pod for a weekend, lovely location, spacious, clean pods with super facilities. Will definitely be booking again.
Claire (10th Mar 2014)
It was winter we were cold coming off the mountains. All I can say for the price and what we got was fantastic. It was warm enough to dry boots clean comfy enough room for 2 the toilets and showers excellent microwave for warming food. Only draw back. No curtains to keep light out but thats only if you are a light sleeper. Took us a while to work out which was our pod but thats all. Excellent for us outdoor mountain folk
lee james (9th Jan 2014)
The camping pods were superb, really well built, a good size and cozy and warm in a lovely location. The shower rooms and other facilities were also excellent. Bedding was clean and the beds were very comfortable, which is just what is needed after a day trekking in the mountains! Claire was great all the way from booking to departing, even came out to say hello and make sure all was well even though we arrived after reception had closed. 5/5 :)
David (4th Dec 2013)
Lovely comfortable pods, definitely the best we've ever stopped in. Represent an excellent value, and the facilities were wonderfully clean. Would recommend highly, and we hope to stay there again soon.
T Taylor (14th Nov 2013)
The pods are a great concept, we all loved it. Very cosy, functional and make you feel part of nature. The facilities were very functional and well presented. Also lovely and very helpful hosts. A unique experience at good price.
david (30th Oct 2013)
Booked 2 pods for 3 gals and a dog. Brilliant facility , warm and cosy with everything at hand in terms of catering facilities, drying area , showers etc. A gem of a place , fantastically located for walking and other attractions. The village nearby has everything you need with quality cafe's and restaurants serving excellent food. Would I recommend it to others? Without a doubt !! Thank you Claire , will be there again
jenny davies (28th Oct 2013)
Just had the most brilliant weekend in Snowdonia staying at Red Dragons lovely camping PODS. My friends and I coming from Cornwall and West Sussex had challenging journeys but a comfortable nights rest, a cuppa at the picnic table the next day and off we went. The PODS have everything you need, the beds are comfie, the units are warm and there is two clean lovely bathrooms with great showers. My dog came with me and was more than impressed :) We will definetely go again for longer methinks! The little cafe down the road in the converted chapel does a cooked breakfast -meat eaters and vegetarians- to die for!!!
Annie Railton (28th Oct 2013)
We stayed in one of the pods at Red Dragon, it was very clean and cosy. The Bathroom facilities on site were excellent. I booked that day and the lady that I booked with over the phone and spoke to in the morning was extremely helpful, polite and a pleasure to meet. Lovely Stay and I hope to go again.
Terri Jade (7th Oct 2013)
The Pods are absolutely superb, and make a very welcome change from tents. Very warm, comfy beds, great facilities (especially the showers)and all in one of my favourite places in the UK. Its the little things that make the difference, and everything has been well thought out with the customer in mind. Brilliant, and as the saying goes "I'll be back".
Gareth Wood (30th Sep 2013)
we loved our pod! So warm and cosy and a great alternative to canvas when the weather forecast is dodgy! The Watkins Path up Snowdon is a beautiful walk and the whole area has so many places to hike that we plan many more visits. The tea/coffee making facilities and the cutlery and crockery in our pod were an unexpected and welcome inclusion. Many thanks for the whole experience
Ruth Duke (23rd Sep 2013)
We spent two nights in a camping pod in a very brief trip to north Wales for our first climb of Snowdon. The pods had everything we could need for a short break, and were great for a more unusual camping trip! The location was fantastic, and the views glorious. We had a lovely warm welcome, and will be returning for a longer trip soon!
Beccy Reynolds (20th Sep 2013)
Had a great 2 day stay in one of these extremely cosy pods. Site was ideally located for our walks up Snowdon and Tryfan. Would recommend this place to anyone who fancies staying somewhere different, which is clean and modern, with great facilities in the heart of Snowdonia; we'll definitely be going back.
H Hollis (23rd Aug 2013)
We stayed in a pod for two nights in August so we could climb Snowdon with our two dogs. The location was perfect and the pods really great and comfortable.

The showers were amazing and everything really clean and tidy.

The little things like an umbrella, a spot where we could attach the dogs to the pod and hand wash etc. in the bathroom were great little extras which made life easier.

Altogether highly recommended, we would definitely stay again.

We went into Beddgelert for tea after climbing Snowdon and the Saracens Head is a must...dog friendly and lovely food.
Georgina Wilcox (22nd Aug 2013)
Really enjoyed our 2 nights spent in the camping pod, which for us was a real treat from our usual tent experience. But at such a good price, we would definitely consider it again. Beds were clean and comfy, handy tea/coffee making facilities, good space to cook in the area outside the pods and toilets and showers were fantastic too. Handy for making an early getaway into the hills after a refreshing nights sleep. Oh and doggy friendly too :)
Lucy Hand (20th Aug 2013)
The camping pod was perfect for the night's stay. It was quiet and warm in spite of the torrential rain falling outside. I will definitely return as it also is in a perfect position for cycling and walking.
Roibert Jones (20th Aug 2013)
I was fortunate enough to visit Bryn Dinas with my son for four nights at the beginning of August. It was our first time staying in a 'pod'. We had a first rate experience.
The 'cocoon', as they call it, was spotlessly clean, relatively spacious and well equipped. We opted for the basic package and took our own sleeping bags and pillows. The beds were comfortable and had large storage areas under each which you cannot see in the photographs on their website. Each cocoon has four electric points, a bedside lamp, a kettle and tea and coffee making items. They also have a heater which we did not need to use in August.
The basic package in August costs £40 per night + £2 for the use of their Wi-Fi facility. I thought this was reasonable and certainly cheaper than any of the bed and breakfast options available. If you do not wish to use their Wi-Fi there is a communal cabin with 2 PCs which have Internet access. The communal room also has a large fridge for guests to use.
There were two shower rooms, each of which had a WC. If all the pods and cabins had been occupied this might have presented a few problems, but as it was we did not experience any difficulties. The bathroom facilities are almost new and were spotlessly clean.
There is also a tiny kitchenette with fridge, microwave and kettle, a separate washing-up sink and a roomy and well equipped drying room and laundry.
I was impressed by a few of the little extras that you would not usually expect to find on a campsite such as bottles of hand soap in the shower rooms, and washing-up liquid and utensils beside the sink.
The site is literally 300 yards from the base of the Watkin Path leading to the summit of Snowdon. You could not wish to be better situated, provided the Watkin Path is the right one for you. I have not climbed it for 15 years and I was very surprised at how much it has deteriorated with use. It is not for you if you have young children, and I would avoid it if it is misty or there is snow or frost on the ground. The last section before the summit involves scrambling up some narrow and very loose scree pathways which are very easy to miss. Should you fall you would slide/tumble hundreds of feet.
I cannot say that I think the 'new (ish)' visitor centre on the summit is an improvement. It seems smaller than the one it replaced and it certainly could not cope with the crowd of over 500 people who were on the summit when we arrived. Our plans to stay for a meal and a couple of pints were soon ditched when we saw the long queue waiting nearly 40 minutes for mediocre pasties and overpriced, re-labelled beer (£3.95 per half pint bottle). Instead we bolted down a packet of crisps, used the loos and headed back down again. Perhaps it was because we visited in August, but this was certainly the low spot of an otherwise fantastic day.
There is no mobile reception at Bryn Dinas, and though Beddgelert is only 2.5 miles away not all networks are available even there. We were lucky because 'EE' is.
Beddgelert has most things you would need during your stay including a range of hotels/cafes and pubs. The village shop is small but quite useful. If you need to do a big shop then you will need to travel further afield.
The only real difficulty we experienced was with the mosquitoes and gnats. The site is close to a river and not far from a lake, so it is well blessed with the presence of our little buzzing friends. We chose to stay in our pod with the door shut, but you might find a citronelle candle or a 'buzz off' device might do the trick. You cannot blame the management for the bugs and in any case it was much better than being under canvas. If you go at a different time of the year, or have a thicker hide, you just might get to use the excellent picnic tables and your barbecue.
For a cheaper alternative to bed-and-breakfast, or a more luxurious alternative to camping, we thought the pods were excellent. We would certainly recommend them and will use them again the next time we visit Snowdonia.

Stayed for a night in the Pods before we set out on a charity challenge up Snowdon. We found the pods to be very comfortable, with all shower and toilet amenities close to hand. Red Dragon Holidays also boasts a very welcoming and helpful host. See you again soon.
Nigel Laughton (3rd Aug 2013)
The camping pods were very clean and comfy with tea making facilities and an extremely handy umbrella.Shower rooms were perfect I will definatley be returning for another visit
Cheryl Wright (3rd Aug 2013)
Myself and my family stayed in 3 of the camping pods for one night and were genuinely delighted. For a much lower price than other pods we were supplied with beds, comfortable mattresses, tea, coffee and excellent facilities. The community room was great for when the bad weather set in and it was much nicer to have actual bathrooms as opposed to shower and toilet blocks.

Nothing to complain about at all, we will definitely be returning!
Elizabeth Sinclair (29th Jul 2013)
Stayed in the pods at beddgelert and they were great. The effort from all involved is evident throughout and a credit to the team. I have reccomended them to friends and would return without hesitation.
Howard murphy (29th Jul 2013)
Stayed in camping pod- lovely and cosy with comfy beds, more like a small hotel room, even came with a kettle!. Facilities were great- showers were hot with good power, was very lucky with weather so didn't need to use the drying room or the umbrella! Area available to set up barbecue, though I headed into Bedgellert each night (an hours walk on nice footpath) . All in all a great stay- I'm just trying to find time to go back!
Jenny Liddell (22nd Jul 2013)

Glad you enjoyed it and hope to see you again soon!
These Pods are brilliant! Warm, comfortable, with proper beds. There are electric points to recharge phones and GPS, a computer on site to check email and stuff and spotlessly clean bathrooms. Everything you need!(With little touches of genius like an umbrella so you don't get wet on the way to the bathroom). Right at the foot of Snowdon as well. (The Café up the road does cake of Biblical wonderment).

The cake is very dangerous for the waistline.....especially when you live here!
Brilliant, clean, comfortable, perfect alternative to camping, much more comfortable and a lift to pen-y-pass, what more could you ask for
Paul latimer (3rd Jun 2013)
Response from Red Dragon Holidays
Always happy to oblige with lifts to pen y pass...the car park gets full so very early!
Camping Pods were really warm, comfortable, cosy and the scenery was superb at the foot of Mount Snowdon! The shower facilities were fab! Fantastic first experience of glamping! We were made to feel very welcome by Clare + Neil (owners) and our dog was welcomed too, the karabiner hook to attach the dogs extension lead to was a welcomed extra... Hope to return soon.

Hope to see you 'Glamping' again soon.
We stayed in a camping pod which was great. It was warm, comfortable and attention to detail was good, such as including tea/coffee-making facilities. Useful to have the kitchenette close by and lots of info in the communal room. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. Great location for exploring the area.

Everybody deserves a panad (welsh for cuppa) in bed in the morning!
We hired two pods for two nights and found them really spacious, comfortable and warm. The beds are comfortable and the linen new. The Red Dragon site as a whole is really good with a community area on site with computers and a library.
It's a great place to use as a base for Snowdon and there is a drying room for wet gear. Definitely use again!

We stayed in the new pods at Red Dragon...clean, comfortable and quirky! We really enjoyed our stay, enabling us to go 'camping' earlier in the year! The dogs were welcome too, which means we can get away as a family. What a great experience, one we'll hopefully be repeating!
