Highwood Camping in Dorset

I was looking for a unique experience for our holiday and stumbled across Highwood camping. The owners Ruth and Tim were very friendly and truly lovely people they accomodated our needs and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in a bell tent which had all the basics we needed and we hired a firepit. The composting toilets were an experience but one that we embraced by the end off the week. The solar power showers were hit and miss but a cold shower is better than no shower all in all a fabulous time was had by all of us in this beautiful and peaceful location. Ideal area to stay if you want to explore the isle of purbeck. We will be back next year. Thank you tim and ruth xx

We stayed in our trailer tent for the weekend 10-12 August 2012 with our 2 small dogs. We were made very welcome by Tim and Ruth as soon as we arrived. We were able to choose our pitch in a lovely field scattered with daisies. All that was needed was a Cadbury Flake! The facilities were very good, solar showers and composting toilets. We had not stayed at a campsite with these before, but the instructions were very clear and using them wasn't scary at all! There is a shelter over the wash basin and washing up sink for days when the weather is not so good.

The reception area had charcoal and eggs for sale and firepits/barbeques to borrow. Also a collection of bats and balls to play with in the adjacent field for those with lots of energy! The field was also equipped with goal posts and a net for badminton etc. We had a go at flying our kite there too.

The atmosphere on site was lovely, very friendly like minded campers. Tim and Ruth chatted to everyone ensuring all had a good time.

We would give this site 10 out of 10 for its facilities and friendliness and we look forward to returning next year when the site opens again.

We have just arrived home from a holiday in Dorset where we stayed at Highwood campsite. I can honestly say it was a fab 4 nights and I'm gutted to be home. Tim and Ruth (the owners) were so friendly and helpful. Even lending us their bikes so we could get to the shops on our first night there. We stayed in a bell tent which was gorgeous. It was spacious and beautifully furnished and came with all of the kitchen utensils and crockery you would need. I have to confess I was a little worried about the compost toilets and the solar powered showers but the showers were lovely and clean and were warm most of the time. I even quickly adapted to the compost toilets which I found fine in the end. Overall we had a lovely stay at the campsite and would definitely go there again. :)
