Eco Camping at Trill Farm

Take in the beautiful scenery at the eco-friendly campsite set in our 300 acre organic farm. Our remote campsite is situated at the top of a little hill with views over the surrounding countryside. The site is well away from roads and the farmyard, leaving you free to relax and connect with nature. We are a family site and warmly welcome children and well-behaved dogs.

The campsite facilities include a small open barn and courtyard providing storage, shelter, cooking space and a place to eat at tables constructed using larch from our woods. Solar PV and a mini wind turbine power some basic fairy lighting for the evenings. Our rustic showers and sinks have solar heated water, pumped from our spring, and we have composting toilets.

We think fires are a fundamental part of camping, and we have a central fire pit with plenty of free logs from the woods on our farm. We have BBQ to borrow if you don’t have your own.

The site is close to the old railway track which runs through the farm, an ideal area for harvesting berries and observing wildlife. You are free to explore all our hills, woodlands, streams and meadows (trails and maps available), and also to help out collecting eggs and feeding animals. For the more adventurous we have an aerial ropes course and zip wire in our woods that can be used by larger groups. We will do everything we can to ensure you enjoy camping in the open air amongst the abundant nature that thrives here on the farm.

Eating good food is an essential part of every holiday, and luckily our farm is well placed to supply you. Vegetables and salad are at their best when freshly picked, and with our growers on hand to advise you, you can pick your own in our three-acre vegetable garden. We grow over 100 varieties at Trill so there’s bound to be something you fancy! Alternatively if you speak to us before you arrive we can have a selection of your choice waiting for you. You are welcome to help yourself to the abundant berries, fruits, flowers and herbs growing wild all over the farm. We also have home reared lamb, pork and beef for your BBQ or pot, along with eggs and preserves.

Other farm products for sale are organic soaps and balms that we hand make in our workshop on the farm (come along and see how it’s done), rare breed Gotland wool, and sheepskins.

You can drive up to the campsite to drop your gear off in dry weather if you have a sturdy vehicle (in a pinch we may be able to give you a lift), but to preserve the peace we ask you not to leave your cars there, but rather in the farmyard. The campsite is a 10-minute walk from there, and we will lend you wheelbarrows to help move your stuff.

Camping is £5 per adult per night, £3 for children and free for under 5’s.

Group Camping

The campsite is run by The Trill Trust, a charity launched in 2008, that aims to provide experience and education in organic farming, food production, energy generation and other living skills needed to create a sustainable future.

We also welcome camping groups of up to 40 from schools, colleges and youth groups to use the site as a base for a range of activities. As well as workshop space and the freedom to explore the various habitats on our 300 acres, we can arrange many activities for groups on the farm including farm tours and trails, guided foraging or bush-craft skills and an aerial woodland walkway and zip line.
