There’s a reason St. Ives is so often featured as a top UK holiday destination. This wonderfully quaint fishing port surrounded by beautiful beaches and seeped in history provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
St. Ives has long been recognised for its rich artistic heritage, with artists, sculptors and writers from across the globe being drawn to the area in a bid to capture the undeniable beauty of the Cornish countryside. Home to one of only four Tate galleries in the world and a number of other notable museums; St. Ives continues to celebrate the work of local and international artists with an ever changing and lively programme of exhibitions on show.
The heart of the town comprises a warren of small cobbled streets and independent shops, in which to lose yourself and discover some local treasures and delicacies. The popular rail journey along the bay line from St. Erth to St. Ives provides the perfect introduction to the area, sneaking along the coast, overlooking the harbour and down into the town.
When it comes to beaches, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The Harbour Beach is easily accessible from the town and close to nearby shops and facilities, a great spot for building a sandcastle and watching the local fishermen bring back the catch of the day. Porthminster and Porthgwidden, both know for their excellent water quality, are popular swimming spots and perfect for a family day at the beach. Porthmeor beach, home to the Tate museum, is great for both surfing and swimming with a number of cafes and pubs nearby to keep you fed and watered throughout the day!
