Reviews of Welsummer Camping

I found Welsummer a really endearing campsite, mainly because it’s packed with little touches that make you think the owners really have both your convenience / comfort and the planet in mind. So for instance, there is a draining board above the sinks, and bowls for the washing up; a collection of leftover toiletries in the ladies in case you’ve forgotten your own; a shop selling eggs, wood etc; the owners will freeze your coolbag blocks on request for a small sum; raw and cooked food waste composting, recycling and bins, and so on. I so appreciated this (I recently stayed at a campsite without a single bin and no recycling – but taking all your rubbish away with you is not easy when your car is already stuffed with gear, still less if you are on public transport).

The two small fields can seem a little packed, although you quickly get used to being close to other campers, and at least they are near the facilities; if you have a smaller tent you can camp in the woods among trees, which is really special. There are bell tents in the large top field which is also where you park – there is lots of space here for playing ball games etc. Highly recommended.

Arrived at the beautiful Welsummer to be greeted by Med (owner) who was very helpful in recommending a pitch. Being novices to camping Med was also extremely helpful showing us the basics of starting a campfire. We arrived by public transport to Harrietsham and took the short taxi ride costing £10. It rained the whole 3 days but even that didnt put a dampner on things. Tiny shop selling basic essentals, clean bathroom and sufficient hot water for those all important showers. Only downfall is the motorway noise, though after a while even that drowns out. All in all fabolous campsite with equally fabolous owners and "YES" we'd definietely recommend a visit. Oh and one last thing, most people their were returning customers so that says something about Welsummer...
