Camping in Aviemore

One of the most popular destinations in the Scottish Highlands, Aviemore is the perfect base for exploring the Cairngorms National Park. A brilliant location for getaways all year round, with a whole host of winter activities as well as summer ones!

Aviemore in the winter is widely regarded as the best area for snowsports in the UK. Just 9 miles from the town is CairnGorm Mountain, which boasts over 30 km of ski runs, cross country routes and a fully maintained snowboard park. There are also a number of guides and training courses around Aviemore for those hoping to beat the lifts and make their own ski touring adventure.

Come the summer, Aviemore maintains its reputation for adventure with many visitors drawn to the area for its walking, biking and climbing potential. The Cairngorms National Park promises a stunningly rugged landscape of mountains, valleys, lochs and rivers to be explored.

Five of the six highest mountains in the UK are located near to the town and there are a huge variety of high and low level walks as well as guided tours to suit all abilities. Those preferring an adventure on two wheels can enjoy an impressive network of biking trails for all levels from experienced off-roaders to family day trips. There is also some fantastic road cycling in the area with challenging climbs and glorious descents in equal measure. A number of bike shops in the town provide hire services and there are a couple of specialist mountain bike trail centres nearby.

When it comes to climbing, The Cairngorms offer a world of opportunity and brilliant variety with endless crags and mountain routes to tackle. There are numerous courses running throughout the year where beginners can learn the ropes with expert instructors and more experienced climbers can join local guides to find their next big challenge.

There are some excellent family attractions in the area to ensure that everyone’s entertainment needs are catered for including; the Landmark Forest Adventure Park, Highland Folk Museum and The Fun House at Coylumbridge.

The Cairngorms are also famous for incredible wildlife with a quarter of Britain’s threatened species making their home in the National Park. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildcats, capercaillie, ospreys, and golden eagles whilst you are exploring or head to the the Highland Wildlife Park and experience some of the spectacular local wildlife up close.
