Reviews of Glenmidge Smithy

Fabulous!! We have been camping for over twenty years, with a 7-year break, and Glenmidge is the 'complete' package for us:)
NO clubhouse, on-site shop, swimming pool, lists of NOT ALLOWED or children!!!
Well-behaved dogs are welcomed as long as they keep there two-legged slaves on a lead:)
Small, clean and well thought out ablutions, and the bonus of an indoor barn that can be a kitchen home-from-home, if the weather is less than perfect:)
Lovely owners Hamish and Margaret and not forgetting Tom who looks after the site when the owners are not in residence. Campers are considerate towards others.
A built-in alarm clock lives across the road, in the guise of a 'cockerel', and nature's lullaby is a babbling burn:)
Hamish's honey is reasonably priced and out-of-this-world:) Nearby Thornhill has a fabulous Chinese take-out, for if you have driven a long journey & are too tired to instruct the husband to cook:) Good variety of local independent food shops open during the day, and really welcome and friendly locals too:)
The night sky is amazing and during the day you can spot squirrels and buzzards:)
Plenty to explore in the immediate locality in the wonderful corner of Scotland too:)
We took 'time-out' to visit the memorial garden at Lockerbie and it is such a peaceful location. It was difficult to imagine that awful December night when you are in the gardens, and all that you can hear is birdsong, buzzing bees and the distant sound of traffic on the nearby M74, until you suddenly hear the distant drone of a jet engine, and look skywards to see the many vapour trails- a humbling experience.
We only experienced two nights hospitality at Glenmidge Smithy, but intend to make a return visit next month for at least ten days (weather permitting), as the site fees a so reasonable. Definitely the most perfect camping spot on the planet!!

This is a great adult only site, set in beautiful countryside. There are lovely walks direct from the site.

It is a fairly small site but we had plenty of space, the facilities for the size of it are fab, a spotlessly clean shower & toilet, aswell as a barn with dishwashing facilities, fridege/freezer, microwave, kettle etc. Also lots of lcoal information available.

Owners friendly but not intrusive, also they produce their own delicious honey.

We don't live far away but will definitely be back & can recommend it for anyone who wants peace & quiet, but with access to local towns within a few miles.
