This site is unique with its situation deep in the countryside surrounded predominantly by grazing land which encourages an incredible abundance of wildlife.
Breeding barn owls are successful in the box set up in the ash tree in the corner of the campsite and little owls have been breeding here too for as long as I can remember. Tawny owls are evident in the woods nearby. Geese fly over at the end of the day.
Woodpeckers, buzzards, hawks, yellow hammers, wrens, a robin and many many other species are present here and along the banks of the Car Dyke you can frequently catch the quick flight of a Kingfisher or Heron startled as you walk around a corner.
The overgrown bramble hedge along the side of the field has been covered with butterflies each summer – species such as the comma, red admiral, peacocks, small tortoishells, red admirals, painted lady, etc.
Stoats and foxes and other mammals have been seen too. Of course the hares and rabbits add to the family of small creatures living in this area.
The lack of light pollution means that the stars can be so clearly seen and the sight of satellites and comets tails and shooting stars have all been enjoyed by my visitors.
We have had barbecues and campfires and wedding celebrations so the site has many happy vibes woven into it. It’s a safe place for children to run and play (some bring their bicycles) away from busy roads and traffic and fumes. There are many walks leading from the site and cyclist routes too. Dogs are allowed on leads (we have sheep in fields nearby) and again good long walks for dog owners. There is a recreation room which can booked in advance for a function, Whole families book the site and last year in the heat of the summer, one family booked the local heated outdoor swimming pool (private party bookings available in advance)
We allow tents, touring caravans, motor caravans and trailer tents. We're a level, grassy, well sheltered site, with a washroom and flush toilet, with basin and cold water only and drinking water. We have a chemical toilet disposal point, ice pack freezing facility, and 5 electric hook-ups.
Don’t just imagine the scene, come and join us down here for a happy stay.
