Sat nav designed with campers and caravanners in mind

Campers and caravanners are the target demographic for a new satellite navigation system.

According to expertreviews.co.uk, the TomTom Go Live Camper & Caravan tailors journey times and routes for different types of vehicle, as well as offering up points of interest along the way.

The sat nav is on sale now and has been designed in such a way that the navigation software takes into account that they may be driving a long, tall or heavy vehicle. This means that when people are driving from England up to campsites in Scotland, for instance, they can avoid roads unsuitable for their mobile homes.

Marielke Nieuwerth-van den Akker, a representative from TomTom, said: "The launch of the Go Live Camper & Caravan puts an end to unnecessary detours and unwanted surprises. Not only does it calculate the very best routes, it is also a great source of relevant information on the journey."

Commenting on the product on engadget.com, technology expert Sarah Silbert noted that the roads are not always laid out to be easily negotiated with a large caravan or camper van, which is why the device could prove to be useful for campers.

She pointed out that there is also the option to switch profiles, so that it can be used with cars too.
