With this summer shaping up to be a record breaking one in terms of heat, this could be just the right product for avid UK campers. It's a very simple concept (a compact cooling fan, or "personal cooler") and it is superbly implemented.

First impressions were good, with the sleepbreeze well packed and shipped with an easy to follow manual. The fan unit is connected to a fabric duct, approximately 1m long, and then powered by a choice of either a battery unit or a mains powered adapter (only the mains unit is supplied with the fan). The fan draws air in and blows it out through several holes in the fabric duct. The idea is that the sleepbreeze gets air flowing around the tent, preventing the sweltering situation that so often greets campers on a bright summer's morning! In very hot weather, the end of the sleepbreeze could be placed outside the tent and the duct fed into the tent.

The unit itself is very well constructed and feels like it could survive many a tough camping trip. Conveniently, the bag that holds the fan and duct is attached to the end of the duct, providing a useful point from which to hang the duct and ensuring that the bag is never lost among other bits of camping kit.

The sleepbreeze has three fan speeds and although is a little noisy on the highest fan speed setting, it is nearly inaudible on the lowest fan speed, meaning that even the lightest sleepers can use it without disruption. It also has a timer setting, enabling campers to have it working while they go to sleep and then turn off either 15, 30 or 45 minutes after being turned on.

At just over £50 (including P&P), the sleepbreeze isn't just another cheap gadget. However, if you're a regular camper or are planning a camping trip in a hot/humid region, then it could make the difference between a comfortable nights sleep or no sleep at all. It's only available through the sleepbreeze website, www.sleepbreeze.co.uk
