\"\"As the saying goes, every journey starts with a single step. And why not make that first step a comfortable one? To help you do just that, we’re taking a look at a new ladies’ hiking boot from Brasher. At less than £100 per pair, these waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX® lined walking boots aim to provide excellent value for money for those who enjoy walking in the British hills and valleys. But do they deliver?

First impressions of the boot were good. They’re good looking and the dark colour means you won’t be worried about getting them nice and muddy! Although they felt a little tight at first, they soon softened and were very comfortable after that.

There’s nothing like a little rock scrambling to test out the grip on new boots and the Brasher Kiso GTX boots scored perfectly in that test. As well as a very ‘grippy’ sole, they have a reinforced toe that helps protect toes from being stubbed against a rock.

Although there wasn’t an opportunity to test the waterproofness of the boots in the wild, we did test them by putting them in 5 inches (12 cm) of water. Incredibly, they didn’t let in a drop of water, even after being in the testing tub for a couple of minutes. That is made even more amazing by the fact that they’re still breathable and very lightweight (only 990 grams). Whether or not that waterproofness will last for the lifetime of the boot is something we clearly weren’t able to test!

\"\"We were also sent some Brasher Dual Terrain socks to use with the boots and they were also very comfortable. Apparently they feature ThermoCool technology, to adjust foot temperatures to keep feet cool in warmer conditions and warmer in colder climates, as well as an Anti-Blister inner layer. We didn’t really have the test environment to test these features of the socks, but if they perform half as well as the boots then they’re a winner too!

All in all, especially given their price, these boots are heartily recommended and are sure to be a good investment with a rather wet winter on its way! For stockist details and further information log on to www.brasher.co.uk or call 0191 5165780.
