Reviews of Byecross Farm

Can't believe this fantastic little site has escaped us for so long! We met up with some friends here (four campervans in total) and easily found a secluded corner. The whole feel of this site is relaxed and friendly, it's exactly what we look for. Simple, honest riverside camping, a million miles away from the world of oversized, rulebook brandishing McCampsites that hog so many beautyspots.
Brilliant, thanks Tony & family. See you again soon!

A delightful campsite, not really set up for caravans due to the low hanging branches of the orchard although there are a few pitches that are not under the trees.

With an extended awning pole the branches were lifted out of the way so that we could reverse in and set up camp with a great view of the river.

Approach the site from Bredwardine if towing for the easiest access onto the site. The site itself has a washing up area and plenty of hot water. I didn't try the shower but by the look of it there should be no complaints. We also noticed that there was construction under way which could be for a bigger and better toilet and shower facility.

We both agreed that this is a great site. The neighbours were friendly and considerate as were our hosts who made us especially welcome.

We will return again soon as it is only 20 minutes from home and I would like to get some photo's of the kingfisher that flew by within 20 minutes of us turning up.

All in all this site is well worth a visit but don't tell too many people about it or you may find it hard to get in.

This campsite is well worth a visit. Although it could be really busy, it always had a nice warm atmosphere, with campfires, singing etc. Although there were not a lot of facilities, we enjoyed it very much.I would love to come and stay again.
Really lovely site, very relaxed and informal, brilliant location for canoeing. Couple who run the site really nice, came round every evening to make sure everything OK. Campsite was beautiful in the evening with all the campfires going and people sitting round enjoying themselves. Will definately be back in not to distant future.
Just back from Aug Bank hol weekend and although it was extremely busy the couple who own it (Tony and Sharon) couldn't be more obliging and helpful, always on hand. They very kindly kept a birthday cake in their fridge for two days for us. One of our party had forgotten roof box keys so Tony got tools to help him open it.Bent over backwards to be helpful. The site itself is magnificent. A large apple orchard with sun streaming through the branches and a river running right through the site, much of it shallow and flat so ideal for kids and dogs to play in. Campfires were set up everywhere and you can buy logs onsite or being own. Can't praise this site enough. Hereford only 20 mins up road but dont really need to leave site if you have all of your supplies. They had put extra toilets on in the shape of portaloos but a new toilet block is in progress which will be needed once word gets around about the amazing beauty spot. Well done and keep up the hard work!
This is a great site! We had a very relaxed weekend and the owners are very laidback and friendly.Thankyou for a great weekend, we will be back soon
A beautiful site set in an apple orchard on the river wye, accomodating, unfussy hosts and allowance of a campfire to boot. Couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommended!
I have stayed at this campsite a couple of times now whilst taking youth groups canoeing down the Wye and due to use it again shortly. My groups have been able to tent amdist a lovely orchard, light a nice campfire, use good toilet/washing facilities and allll this is done in just the most lovely serene location. A small intimate campsite that is just great for small groups or friends. Lovely owners too...David Howells (C/O Adventure Beyond).
wow, what a beautiful place. a very relaxed environment with a beautiful veiw of the river. the perfect old fashioned way of camping. think we may become regular visitors to this site. everybody was very friendly. have even suggested it to a few more friends. a wonderful weekend was had. thannkyou very much!
Fantastic campsite in a fantastic rural location. A group of friends and myself have stayed here on a few occasions now and i honestly cannot find a bad word to say about it. With the relaxed atmosphere and great facilities, guaranteed everyone will be kept happy (even a group of fussy teenage girls!)

Nothing is too much trouble for Sharon and Tony, they couldn't be more helpful.

Can't wait until my next visit!
Wow, a little piece of heaven, not far from home.
Well worth a visit, site is just right, all very natural with just the right amount of mod cons, a true camper needs. Although site is only 10 miles from our home, we felt we had escaped to an idylic piece of Britain. Kids loved the relaxing atmosphere, climbing trees, canoeing etc.
They dont come better than this.
Tony and Sharon are more than accomodating and extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble!
Possibly the BEST EVER new years eve!!!
We contacted the owners a very short time before new year to ask if a group of us could go along for a camping trip to celebrate new year without the hustle and bustle of the city center. They were very welcoming and had no problem accomidating us at short notice that time of year.

We pitched up, light a big fire and danced around it all night long seeing in the new year with a couple of fireworks.

The shower and toilets facility were clean and tidy and in good working order.

It is set in a lovely orchard with the river wye running staright past and there is a small village pub a short distance away.

We had sooooo much fun new year that we all went back about a month ago (April 11) once again this rural campsite and its owners exceeded out expectations and their hospitality is second to none.

Thank you. WE WILL BE BACK :)
We pulled up in the camper van, popped up the roof, made the beds, lit a fire and just sat back and relaxed with a bottle of wine. This wasn't our first visit, we love the laid back atmosphere and the freedom that the site allows the 3 kids. We hired a canoe from Tony and had a fabulous day on the river. The toilets and shower were well maintained and very clean and I was very impressed with the new stainless steel washing up area. Fantastic, we can't wait to return in July.
What an idyllic little site this is - set in lush grass in the apple orchard on Byecross Farm. The river Wye runs alongside the orchard making it really popular with kayak/canoe enthusiasts. There was a really friendly atmosphere, lots of people having fun on the water.

But it's a very small site and was way too busy this bank holiday weekend to feel comfortable especially as the facilities are 2 toilets and 1 shower. The lovely owners were hugely apologetic and said they weren't really prepared for being so busy as they don't take bookings and would put in extra facilities for busy weekends in future.

The site is very low key and laid back but be warned there are NO signs on the surrounding roads and a very small one on the gate which we would have driven straight past if we hadn't spotted the tents! We also had no phone reception which caused a few problems.

We had a great stay, late nights around the campfire, kids climbing trees and wading in the river! Overall a lovely old fashioned campsite in a lovely bit of the country!
Response from Byecross Farm:
Yes you are right there Hannah, the two toilets and one shower were no where near enough on that weekend but I have spoken to the planning dept in Hereford today and they said to submit a planning application to build more. If successful I will have them up and running by next year. Please come back.
Tony.
