Reviews of Swallow Falls Hotel And Youth Hostel
If you love peace and quiet, DON'T BOTHER!! Had to endure two couples, drunk, arguing, fighting and screaming by our tent @2.15 am, staff done nothing about it despite our request to sort it. Female owner became rude and abusive to us when we complained next day and basically said we'd made it all up because, according to her, no one else had complained. Big sign saying no noise after 11pm is a complete joke. Pretty setting with the sound of the waterfall but ruined too by the noisy main road where bikers race up and down!! Change the staff and move the main road and I would go back, otherwise, NEVER AGAIN! A very sleepless weekend was had by my myself, my husband and two children aged 13 and 10 who had to listen to all the night time fighting and foul language which the staff done nothing about, pathetic!
We stayed for just one night for new year (I'm so grateful it was just one night!). The food was indeed disgusting, and the staff didn't speak the greatest of English but they were at least friendly. The facilities were run down, the kitchen in the hostel was poorly equipped, cramped and dirty. Our bedroom was little more than a converted shed off the car park which was poorly insulated and drafty and the bedding smelled like it had been on for a year. I used my pyjamas to cover the pillow case as I didn't want my skin to make contact with that grimy material! Vile place. I tried to post a similar review on the yha website... funny that they only approve positive reviews! Stay away from swallow falls yha!
Words of advice - DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE.
We stayed for two nights earlier this summer. The place was dead, in the middle of nowhere (i.e. is described as being in Betwys-y-Coed, but is around 2 miles up a hill on the busy A5), on a terrible blind bend on a fast road that you have to risk your life leaving or rejoining. The food was terrible and the facilities were run down and filthy (oh, did I forget to mention that many of the staff are from Eastern Europe and don\'t speak very good English). Take some advice, find somewhere else to stay and enjoy this beautiful part of the world!!
