Reviews of Roebeck Camping And Caravan Park
My Family and I chose Roebeck Campsite as our holiday destination in July 2009. When we arrived there we were pleased as is a pretty and quaint campsite run by a family, who lived in a beautiful home on site. The family initially seemed accommodating, but as the week went on it became obvious that this was definitely not the case. On arrival we were asked where we would like to pitch our tent. We chose an area next to the surrounding fence and fir trees. After pitching our tent we were told that we would need to keep the noise to a minimum as their neighbour is known to complain. What we didn't realise is how close his home was as it was hidden behind the fur trees. We were there with another family of 5 (one being a young baby) and two young boys. We also had two boys of our own aged 9 and 11 years. We therefore did not intend to be particularly noisy, late in the evening and kept the noise to a minimum, but one eve at around 11.30 we were playing Jenga under the gazebo. The baby was asleep and the radio was being played very low. The following day the owners told us we needed to keep the noise down as she had a complaint from another customer. We were not being noisy, but bearing in mind that this is a campsite and most people are in tents, I do feel they should expect to hear some noise and 11.30pm is not particularly late during a holiday. The following day it was very hot and as the site has no pool etc we decided to feel 2 empty coke bottles up with water and pierce a small hole in the top , so as the children could have a water fight and cool down. We were not near anyone and not causing anyone any problems. The children hadn't even emptied their first bottle when the owners turned the whole water supply off. When we saw them we mentioned this to them and we were told "We do not allow water fights. We have to pay for our water." I suggested that they put their prices up slightly to cover for this in the future.
They also house a number of Peacocks and at around 5am they decide to wake you up.
We had booked to stay at Roebeck for two weeks, but after one week and being made to feel very uncomfortable about doing anything, we all decided to pack up and leave. We demanded a refund for the 2nd week. They initially refused to give us a refund, but following a threat to go to the tourist board they agreed.
We would never stay there again and would not recommend this site to anyone in the future.

Response from Roebeck Camping And Caravan Park:
We do ask campers to be reasonably quiet between 11:00pm and 7:00am which we feel is a reasonable compromise between people who want a quiet evening and those who want to stay up a little later. It’s really just about having consideration for other campers. Unfortunately, we did have quite a few complaints about the noise level at night from the Rozee and Kitchener families. It was only responsible for us to pass these comments on and in a polite way, and ask if they could lower the noise level a little.
During the summer we check water meters daily to pick up any leaks, which can be quite costly. If water meters spin for more than five minutes, it indicates there is a leak and we have to turn off different pipes and try to isolate the problem. In this case, the water meter was continuously spinning very rapidly. It was because these families had left the taps running on full while they ran to and throw, continually filling two litre bottles and throwing them over each other. Again it’s just a question of being considerate and turning taps off after use. We don’t think we should have to increase prices to pay for the waste of a few people.
