Reviews of Wicksteed Park
A lovely site, right on my door step. I only live a few miles away. When I booked for Wicksteed at War weekend I didn't know what to expect. The site exceeded my expectations. Beautiful views, plenty of room and near all the rides if you wanted them. Only down side wish there were electric hook ups, but this did not cause us too much trouble. Would definitely recommend to others and would stay again..
First camping trip to wicksteed park absolutely loved it and the kids loved it too the grounds are lovely the facilities are Great showers always spotless washing up area is a bit hit and miss long queues forming at peak times but take paper plates it's camping actually cannot wait to go again in august and the park it's self is a great day out too
I am a great fan of Wicksteed park. However the state or the camping/caravan site after some rain was terrible. This was not helped by campers from the far field using their cars to drive to the toilets! The consequence being that the road (the grass) became a muddy churned up mess. There are also no speed limit signs on the campsite. The wardens were very friendly and said they would address the situation of the idiots who treated the site like a rally stage, but did not follow up with any action to stop the dangerous driving. Why cant Wicksteed lay a hardcore roadway? I am sure the site is OK in the sunshine but totally impracticable and dangerous when the ground is wet.
When we arrived at Wicksteeds camp site we was shocked to find how clean it was, I liked the idea that you could choose where you wanted to pitch up instead of being told where like most campsites we have previously stayed. But then when it turns to night time it turns into a complete nightmare the toilets got fithly, no toilet roll was to be found in any of the loo, toilet doors had fallen off or hanging off the hinges and there was no one to be found to report this to! When we woke up the loos was still uncleaned and not repaired and they didn't get cleaned until 11am but I must admit it was nice and quiet no traffic noise or anything it was lovely just falling asleep in peace and quiet. All in all it was an ok stay for the quiteness of the night but hell for food and night time staff. Would not recommend this park under any circumstances especially if you go with two young children (mine was 3 and 1 at the time of stay) I would much rather pay to go to a proper campsite and be told where to pitch and pay £'s more than to stay here ever again!
very expensive for the amenities, washing up water always cold,
would not stay again at these prices we have a caravan over 20 foot so we paid £ 30 per night
Well our first time camping ever and we chooses wicksteed park for the bank holiday weekend, pitch price very good in comparison to other parks.it states on the website there is no electric so why people or moaning is beyond me.there is only 2 washing up sinks but we washed up at our pitch found it a lot easier with boiling water and a bowl not rocket science really.Only complaint is that the shower block needs a bit more of a clean as there was loads of dust on top of hand dryers an toilet pipes, and abit of de cob webbing would be good. Will be using again great camping park at a great price
Tbh, I cannot understand why people are complaining about the £20 pitch fee. Prior to chosing Wicksteed Park, I looked into staying in a field in Norfolk and not only did they charge a pitch fee, they then added a per person fee. With 6 of us it worked out around £150 for 3 nights!!
This was our first camping trip ever and we will returning again soon.
1. Paid, received passes, pitched anywhere and as someone else mentioned, left alone ;)
2. Quiet and very child friendly
3. Lovely clean toliets and showers (it was quiet during our stay and I agree it would be hectic with not enough showers if it was busier)
4. No the area is not level but we had not problem at all getting pitched.
5. No electric!!! So.... it's camping. If I can cope with no electric for a while AND two sets of young twins, anyone can. All part of the fun in my opinion.
Negative... Yes I agree more showers needed.
In all we had a fantastic experience and will return.
Fantastic setting and amenities but the campsite needs managing in order to ensure shower blocks are more regularly clean and not abused and to exploit its full potential, electric hook up desperately needs installing.
We visited Wicksteed Park this weekend for my first ever camping experience and have come away a very happy camper. Out part included 2 couples and 4 children in 2 tents. The pitch was great, no mess, bins provided and emptied before they got full. I was immensely impressed with the cleanliness of the shower block which had 3 family / disabled shower rooms. I managed to shower myself and 2 small boys with no problems at all and the water was a perfect temperature. The park itself had just the right amount of fun (most of it free) for the kids to play on and just a couple of pound spent on some of the rides satisfied everyone. All in all I would highly recommend Wicksteed Park for couples or families for a fun getaway. Thanks Wicksteed, we really enjoyed ourselves :)
This was our first time camping as a family at Wicksteed park and we loved it. We also took our dog and he had no complaints either as he cloud walk around with us. The camp site was great nice pitch not too far from the shower and toilet accommodation which was modern and kept clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Rides and park facilities were perfect for my 4yr old being able to ride almost everything there. Local convenience stores nearby tesco extra, pub and chip shop 5 min drive away. We'll definitely be returning.
I have stayed here as part of the model boat event.
The new toilets are good but there is no electric hook up. Now that's Ok but I can go on a Caravan club site for the same money you get Hard stand, Electric, TV plug in. 1st class toilet blocks. I'm not going to the model boat event this year as the fee's are OTT for what you get. Take a hard look Wicksteed park at what you can do to improve the camping.
booked over the phone , arrived picked up entry ticket , easy pitch anywhere. left alone . took 3 dogs loved it . brand new showers and toilets were clean but needs to be more of them . no electric hook up but hey its camping. no rush to leave next day .wonderful time. large camping area , might be bit expensive at £20 but worth every penny
Been coming to wicky for the last 5yrs with family & friends & always have a fantastic time, & already organising this years trip to wicky. It was very wet last year but we still had a fantastic time read one comment yes could do with a small shop on site so people can get the basic essentials of bread and milk & could do with more washing up facilities, have now up graded to caravan so rain won't be such a problem this year thanks wicky for a fantastic park :-D
Wicksteed park is a great place to camp at, we were able to set up right near the shower and toilet block, the bins on site were always emptied, staff on site were very helpful and friendly and we had plenty of space around us. However the shower block floor does flood from people using the showers and it can get quite busy at times also there isnt any lights plotted around outside so when it starts getting dark, its hard to see what your doing even if you have torches with you. But that didnt really bother us at all, overall had a great few days and would look into staying again!
This was our first time to Wicksteed park, and we loved it! We found the shower and toilet block clean and well kept, staff friendly overall Excellent! great Value for money ideal location for families. we will be booking again!
I choose wicksteed park as my first time camping experience, thinking if I didn't like it I could go home. I truly LOVED it. Reading some reviews regarding the cost of per night, I couldn't comment because being a camping virgin I don't know what other campsites charge. Every time I used the toilet and shower block, I found them very clean. The staff that I spoke to on the campsite were all very friendly. I do agree with a review that I have read. They do need some more washing up areas, as 2 didn't seem enough. All in all I had a very pleasurable first time camping experience. Thanx Wicky park
We stayed along with other family members in a couple of tents. The site is really good and although it rained and we had several thunder storms we enjoyed our stay. A few suggestions would be that perhaps you could have a little shop on site that sold basic items such as bread, milk, papers etc so that we did not have to go to local supermarkets. Also it would be good if you had extra toilet shower block at the other end of the field and perhaps some electric points and a gravel road so that the field wasn't so water logged. Apart from these few points I can't recommend this site enough. Its very family friendly and kept very clean. Will definately be recommending to other family members.
Hey we decided to stay the weekend in our caravan at Wickies , it was great and we will do it again , but just a little suggestion if you have people staying overnight would be great if like say in the huts oppsite roller coaster that you had a little conveience store selling bread ,milk , beans etc and even daily papers , as we either had to keep popping out to Tescos or home after what we brought with us ran out ! But other than that great stuff ,
But no set rules on were you set up what way round etc or times to leave , witch is very refreshing , obviously when you get electric hook there will be pitch numbers for them , but please keep it relaxed , but i had a converter on my car battery with a plug running a extension into my caravan for lights and the wifes hairdryer lol
First time camper went with a number of other family's, found the pitch sites fine and level but read another review, so the level of the pitch must depend on where you stay in the field. The facilities are good, checked all the time and the shower blocks are clean. Agree with the comments about the washing up areas they need more than 2, on the day we went one of the sinks blocked. But being campers everyone took it in their stride and we ended up chatting and making friends with other campers. Although probably not much fun having to wait when it's raining. Cant comment on price as have never camped anywhere else. Overall really enjoyable but think you probably are paying for being so close to the park and when you camp you dont pay for parking at the park.
Difficult to give a suitable rating as we are frequent visitors to good old Wicky, and have been for many years. The staff, both booking and security are second to none and keep things very friendly and family orientated, always take time to chat on their 'rounds' of the field. The lady who looks after the shower block is also very dilligent and again very friendly. So on those features alone, the park is outstanding.
Quite rightly quoted, no electric hook-up, but for us, that is part of the appeal and has never been a problem. Horses for courses I guess and if people require hook up, I guess Billing is more suitable, although neither as beautiful, nor as friendly and definitely not as tranquil.
Now, the reason for my 4 star rating, is price. I do think that the £20 a night at weekend and Bank holidays is a bit of a high one, but also having spoken to the camping manager, who is always very helpful and informative and cares passionately what his visitors think, I realise that to ensure the current high standards are maintained, it has to be this way.
Last year we spent a total of 7 weeks at Wicksteed Park and I am looking forward to the start of this season.
Overall, if you want a good old fashioned, relaxing break, the companionship of like minded campers, staff who care about their visitors and stunning surroundings, then ignore the price and book.
See you there
Great space with no cramped pitches, the facilities are clean, well kept and inspected, Overall a very quiet campsite with no late night noise, very family friendly, a great stay for all.
The camp site was well kept, bins emptied regularly, toilet block cleaned regularly, but on high season weekend bookings the facilities could not cope with the number of people booked in and staying on site ie only 2 washing up stands, not enough showers for the number of people on site at peak times mornings and evenings. Over all enjoyable stay.
We have visited Wickstead park on many ocasion and stayed overnight twice. That is until the increased the prices.
We have had to take the decision to stop our anual visit as the park have increased the nightly charge to £25 for a caravan over 20" an as most caravans are over 20" they have in our opinion out priced themselves.
The field is not level there has just been a new shower block installed but needs to be a few considering the size of the field the there is NOT ELECTRIC hook-ups availble.
£25 is way to much to pay without electric and feel sorry for the people staying in tents on a very uneven field. I hope the mangement come to their senses and reduce the pitch fee or supply electric for the higher price.
