The campsite is adjacent to a barbeque area and is available for walker's, backpackers and boaters' tents, on the north side of the lock (i.e. you need to cross Heybridge Sea Lock from road access). There is no road access. Toilets, showers (free), drinking water and laundry (token operated) are available in the facilities block, there are two pubs (The Old Ship and The Jolly Sailor), both serving meals, within a few minutes walk and the Blackwater estuary is just the other side of the sea wall. There is a regular bus service into Heybridge and Maldon. Camping gear needs to be carried across the Sea Lock; there is a walkway with side barriers for this purpose. Campers should make themselves known to the lockkeeper, Martin Maudsley, at the lock cottage before pitching their tent. It is advisable to book in advance, even if on the day of arrival for last minute visits - telephone or e-mail Martin Maudsley (01621 853506 or 07712 079764).

Reviews of Heybridge Lock

This is a lovely little field to tent in, for a few days in a very beautiful setting,Martin runs the area and is very friendly and helpfull to his visitors. There are two pubs very nearby and sitting and eating at the 'the old ship' watching the boats coming in and out of the locks was lovely ( get involved and help open or close the gates ) I did and its harder than it looks, definetely will return had a very nice weekend break.
